Best way to get your first 3 star maxed?

Hi there,
I'm stuck on the 2*s for a while now and collecting all the 3* I can get. However the inflow of covers is not really generous given my luck at tokens and the covers are spreading over all the available chars.
I was wondering how you managed to get enough covers to max your first 3* and how long the transition took you?
Any tips?

I'm still working on it, but joining a top 50 alliance really helps. Between alliance rewards and facebook shares you get covers and ISO quickly.

In just over a month I've gone from a lvl 40 1* team to making the 2* - 3* transition.

I relied on the glory days of Thorvelrine to place well enough in PvP to just collect 3***. Then I didnt truly dedicate my iso until I had enough covers to make Punisher worthwhile (I say Punisher since they were handing him out like candy at one point).

Once you have enough iso to get a 3*** to about 105 or 110, the game's mmr makes things really easy for you for 2-4 tournaments since matchmaking still kept my opponents in the 2**. Thats when I started consistantly getting top 10 finishes and could compete for 1st place.

Tl;dr Rely on the PvP prizes and specializing on 2-3 characters (1 being a healer helps).

Also, if your roster size is small, focus on getting more spots to not waste any 3***s and not spending hp on anything else other than a 3 or 8 hr shield.
  • The latest handed out like candy covers are Lazy Cap. He is my first fully covered 3*. The hardest part has been garnering ISO, especially now.

I'm not sure there is a best way, there's a fastest way, spend a bunch of cash and bam, instantly maxed 3*. There's a progression way, keep playing the events, gaining covers, and eventually you will be there. There's a lucky SOB way where you pull 5 featured heroes in a row and have a 2/2/4 Human Torch because of it. This way doesn't work as well anymore with feature tokens basically == Heroic tokens.

It's not like you can focus on individual 3* heroes unless you buy covers. You get what you get when you get it. Just keep at it and the transition will happen.

ISO is the worst thingto spend real money on. Maybe even worse than tokens.

the fastest way to get iSO is to hit the seed teams in LRs right when they start, until it stops giving you trivial 1* teams. And even if you miss the opening, do the 4-5 battles to get the bonus ISO at 100 points. It adds up.

My guide (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939) has a section about this. The TLDR version is that the best way to do this is pick a good newly released character, and just aim for getting as many covers for that character as possible: you should be able to get max covers in a month or two given their current release cycle. Be sure to start saving iso for when you actually do get the character: it takes 170k iso to max a character out, and it can take a month to farm that much iso if you play every day without repeatedly grinding shield training or anything crazy like that. Falcon, unfortunately, is a very poor transition character, but Torch seems good if you have his covers.
  • thx for the tips icon_e_smile.gif
good to know how much ISO it actually costs and that Lightning Rounds are a good source. I'll have to start saving up.
Guess I have to just wait and collect then and see what's coming. Little patience and money is a hard combo...

With the LR ISO hunt, be sure to save one (I usually try to keep it the top one) node with an easy win for dropping your tank team when you've hit that 100 point mark. It'll help keep your MMR at a reasonable spot for the other PVP events.

You can try to do something similar with the other PVP events and get in a fair few wins before dropping your tank team. Then when you are about a day or so out from that event's end, start playing for more points. The bonus 30 ISO per match in PVP can really add up, so as you keep accruing points (toward getting the 3* cover rewards) you'll also collect a tidy sum of ISO.
  • Spending money would be easiest. I guess joining a top alliance and working with them would be best.

This is gospel to any developing player. You can generally get 11-13 minutes of play vs seed teams. The seed teams are easy to beat and don't retaliate against you. Play every LR the second that it begins and stop when you start seeing real teams. This should net you between 1500-2000 Iso Per Round. If you are diligent and play every round in this manner, you are easily clear 50K ISO a week just off LRs.

    Good luck.

  • I manipulated the scaling in the TAT event to get a maxed out Patch. Since then it has been a slow grind to get any character fully covered and I still have not done it. (I have not paid any money.)

Three star give outs have gotten harder and harder to come by. They have reduced the percentage of drops of three stars from tokens across the board. Where there were once guarantees there are now a less than 10% chance of pulling a three star cover. PVP events have just recently gotten way more competitive as players who don't need the covers are still competing for them for one lousy Nick Fury cover.

Wow OK I may have just raged all over this post. icon_razz.gif

The best way to max out a three star is to use all your under scaled PVE nodes and ride them to an easy high placement for the brand new character. (Daken is awesome and will probably be one of the best characters in the game for a while.) Hope that they run more Daken rewards in the upcoming PVE events so you can continue to use your scaling to build up one good three star character.

If that three star is good enough, and I think Daken fits this category, then you will be well on your way to winning PVP events for whatever covers they decide are the prizes.

This has been my experience in transitioning from two star to three star. If it was a rant or rude to anyone my apologies.
  • This thread has been pretty useful (and the links therein) thanks everyone.

Been stuck in 2* land trying to scrape together enough covers for a good 3*. Most covers I have for any 3* is 6; not quite high enough to replace any of my maxed 2*s.
  • They've been handing out some 3* more often than others lately, just like they do for 2*s. If you can get to top 10 in PvP, it doesn't take that long to max out a punisher.

I now have 3 3*s with 12 covers or more, just needing iso to beef them up.

As Polarity says, aim for a good, newly released character.

My first 141 was LThor: I'd gotten 4/4/4 from the four events that gave out his covers, and an extra green from a lucky standard token. Try to join a good alliance, because that alliance cover is quite useful. For example, at least 5/5/5 Mr. Rogers covers were given out in the events that followed his introduction, but without alliance covers, that figure probably drops to something like 4/5/2.

So, at present, aim for Uberdaken. The current PVE is his debutante ball, and his covers will surely be given out in multiple subsequent events. He's shaping up to be a solid 3*.
  • Don't let the iso needed to level a 141 frighten you. Got Shield Bro cover maxed from all the events recently which was awesome then you just feed him a little at a time enjoying how much he gains in strength as you go. Then before you know it he tops out and you may actually be disappointed you then need to find a new project to work on.

My second most covered 3* is psylocke recently at 5/5/2 but I am noticing she and shield bro have ~terrible~ synergy so not sure if I want her to be my next project
