kind of tired of rubber banding

The way i can grind 24/7 for an event (i dont but the mechanics work this way) then miss the last 2 hours, and thus get no reward of value despite putting forth 5 times the effort (again i do not actually do this because im aware of it, and in fact if i find out i am missing the end of an event i barely participate at all)

yes yes "ride the rubber band train" also known as the stop playing the game to win the game mechanic.

  • I'm kind of tired of ambiguous thread titles that get me to click and find a rehash of conversations had in other threads.

Not that you're wrong, mind you.

I am kind of tired of grooming my nose hairs, ever since I hit 35 my nose hair just grows like someone put chia seeds in my nostrils. I mean seriously, what is it about our physiology that we get hair in weird **** places? I don't have it yet, but why do old guys get ear hair only when they get older? Is there some kind of change in your body that tells you that the inside of your ears get cold after 50?

  • I don't care about rubber banding. It gives everyone a fair playing field. Scaling on the otherhand is atrocious. You get people with similar rosters and some will have lvl 300 opponents and others will have lvl 70 opponents. It's completely unacceptable.

It's been said dozens of times, hence the sarcastic replies in the thread. I'd be all for some kind of rotating end times rather than the usual noon/midnight ET they've been doing. The other thing that would at least help things for you (and others in your situation) is provide good, and reachable, progression rewards so you at least got some good rewards for all your time spent. They seem to be scaling back these rewards lately though, so I'm not sure we're likely to see a positive change there.
  • well i was not really talking about rubber banding exactly when i wrote this but it occurred to me thats what is causing my issue, so the change to my heading (along with the spelling correction thank you) is still spot on. It is more of the fact that my 5 hours today clearing 40 nodes will mean only half of what your clearing 20 nodes in 2 hours will be tomorrow, but not only that, when i do play tomorrow and clear 20 nodes in the 2 hours i am only getting 1/3 of what i would be getting if i had just not bothered to spend the 5 hours yesterday, so now ive spent 7 hours and cleared 60 nodes and got 500 points, while this other fella spent 2 hours clearing 20 nodes and has 450 points. 3.33 times the effort, same rewards.

    Just seems silly

The point is so that players dont need to be grinding 24/7 in order to get good rewards. Look at the hunt and how everyone was super burnt out by the end of it. The downside is exactly what you said in that its pointless to play early, but its not like grinders are being punished since theyll still be ahead of everyone else if they keep the pace. Even so, i would still rather have rubberbanding than the alternative of being forced to grind every 12 hours if you want to win. Heroic oscorp and the hunt are clear examples of why that structure doesnt work.

I'm 33 and I'm already dealing with ear hair. Crazy eyebrows too! I keep saying I want my eyebrows to be like Gandalf's when I'm old but my wife won't go for it. Maybe I'll luck out and she'll go senile before I do.

Yeah, I am getting Mentat eyebrows too.
  • I love rubberbanding because I can play less and still get great rewards. Like that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall: do less.

I'm 33 too and am dealing with some stray ear hair which started about a year or two ago. I would suggest getting Raging Tempest to automatically trim your nose hair when it grows to 100%.

.... This thread should be renamed, "you think rubberbanding is bad, just wait till you get ear hair!" And yes, I too suffer from the stray hairs on my ears at my age... Getting old sucks!
  • I probably post more times on this subject than anything else, but the 'I can play less and get the same reward' argument feels somewhat redundant compared to the 'If you can't be online for the last 2 hours of the event you're verytinykittied' argument. Especially if the last 2 hours are regularly at 4am/5am for your timezone.

*Remembers to set alarm for 4am, again. Hopes wife doesn't wake up, again*

It's a lazy mechanic introduced for local multiplayer racing games. It really has no place in a massively multiplayer environment with associated pay-to-win elements.

Inconsistent scaling is a issue for a lot of people. Rubberbanding is an issue for a lot of peope. For people negatively affected by both it's a massive issue. Both are problematic and it doesn't mean people have to be in one 'this is worst' camp or another.
  • I don't have ear hair yet. So either I just got lucky, or my 32 is still too young for that.
  • The point is so that players dont need to be grinding 24/7 in order to get good rewards. Look at the hunt and how everyone was super burnt out by the end of it.

Come again? Hunt had rubberbanding. It did not help against burnout. And the cure against grinding is pretty simple: provide only X (say 2) repeats of a node that provide points and that is it. No resets, no whatever. That puts a tight upper bound on play for points. Without RB would handle the timepoint-related issues too.
  • Or lower the rubberbanding effectiveness level. At the moment you can get away with barely playing and still rank well because the rubberbanding is incredibly generous. IMO there should be more of a penalty for not playing for more than 8hrs at a time.

I'm just kind of tired. I was up until 4am local watching GoT and playing MPQ and now have to be at work.

The people that are getting punished are those that have a different schedule than the one MPQ 'suggest'. In 2/3 (at least) of all the PVE nodes I have no chance at getting into the top 100 unless I get up at 4am. I know that this isn't a pure rubberbanding effect since the fixed end times add to it, but rubberbanding amplifies the problem. In PvE I can at least use a shield to cover me, but in PvE I'm entirely out of luck.
  • i don't care, but i get hair wig from outerinner, it's okay,
