Or I could be ignorant about something and making a total fool of myself. Booted up the game to this:

I... I thought shielded players couldn't attack. I don't know what's real any more.

    Um. By the looks of it you are shielded. Not your attacker.

    Yes, that notification shows that you have 'shielded' off the 39 points.

    ...oops. Can you tell I haven't used shields before? I only recently started due to the fact that I've been swimming in HP thanks to the alliance system.
