I'm some what new player, don't want to ask my team, don't want to look crazy stupid. 
Can somebody tell me what is s2 - s4 and how to get there

I'm assuming you are referring to slice 2 and slice 4 (or perhaps slice 2 through slice 4). Each event (versus or story) is divided into 5 time slices which specify the event end times. When you join an event this is what you select after specifying a shield clearance level. So s2 would be the second item on the list and s4 the fourth. Hope this helps.

Don't be afraid to ask your team about stuff. If you look stupid for asking stuff it's probably their problem.
With that being said: it was refreshing to see a proper gameplay question on this forum again.

Seconding this.
If people genuinely come in asking politely for help, they should get help first and jokes second.

It's when people come in with an attitude that it's open season for snark.

Nothing wrong with asking questions if you're polite and willing to learn
