I am a wastrel and a fool...

...for giving in to the urge to buy a cover with hp. There goes 100hp. I'm not a noob, just weak icon_e_sad.gif

Please tell me you've given in to such temptations, despite knowing better than to gamble on a cover.

BTW, the cover I got was one I already had.

  • Don't worry, I sometimes get tempted to do that too although I quit after getting two bagmen. It is certainly a bad choice, but they look so tempting in the early stages of the game, and I just couldn't help...
  • Ach, sometimes it's fun to play the RnG lottery. Just think of it as a wee bit of fun, which rarely (but sometimes!) pays off.

The only time I bought a Heroic token I got Moonstone. I did that by accident, got enraged and deleted her immediately.
If you're on Steam, do not press space bar randomly in cover store, just don't icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • I don't do it very regularly, but once in a while. Sometimes even spend ISO on standards sometimes just to see what happens. Just did it a few minutes ago. 1 Heroic and 2 ISO. Get Rags (Excited because I now have access to next Sim nodes), Bag-Man and MN Mags Purple (My 4th one).

But that still does not beat me pulling X-Force and IW.

It'll also accidentally use a health pack on whomever is in the center. You know, the weak essential character that takes a small bit of damage during a match after matching one environment tile and is at 95% health. icon_mad.gif

I've done it with event tokens. I stopped doing it when I got two useless 2*s in a row -- I bought more than two. icon_razz.gif
  • Got a Courageous token in the last hero lightning round. Got a Yellow spider man so i cant complain.
  • Bought a Courageous token and got Red CMag, so I was happy.
  • I'm weak too, if there's an event token and the featured character is one I really like/want/need, I'm going to buy a token no matter how much I argue with myself.

I've only gotten the character I wanted once, but I never learn icon_lol.gif In my defence, I finish well in most events when RL doesn't get in the way and I'm in a good alliance so it doesn't take long to win the HP back, but still.

From time to time I fall into the ISO lottery... but purchasing tokens is rationally a risky idea, in any case.

From the shop info, your chances are roughly:
    17% of getting a 3 or 4 star char
30% of getting a Bagman, Bullseye, MHawkeye or Moonstone
53% of getting a fairly useful character.

From those, substract the chance of getting a character you do not like (Loki, Ragnarok), a character/colour you have already set, or a char you get poor benefit from (like a 2nd cover, or a yellow captain). I really rather purchasing a specific 2** cover for 500HP, or an event shield to help guarantee a reward.

And ultimately, do not feel so bad; taking risks is exciting too, just ponder the possible outcomes; you would have been quite happy with a lucky draw!

Is there any other way for latecomers to get covers they've missed, other than hoping they cycle back as event prizes? Under those circumstances, I don't think taking a chance on buying covers is such an awful idea.

They do cycle back, but usually just for a single PvP event. It's been a long time since Spidey covers were up for grabs, but considering there's been talk of funbalancing him maybe they've chosen to just make him as unavailable and useless as possible (ie. ridiculous scaling and never being featured in any event).

If that's their mindset, I wish they'd keep him out of pve nodes. But then again, 80% of what's in this current round is completely ridiculous (ie way too tough given the strength of my roster and what I've been seeing up to now)

"Wastrel" is an excellent word, and I commend whatever led up to you using it.

Some of the event packs will give you better odds. The first Falcon PVP had a 10-pack with a 22% chance of Falcon per draw. I pulled three Falcon covers and a Moonstone cover I still needed, which was the equivalent in buying covers to the 3800 I paid. Then the remaining six 2* covers gave me ISO. So I considered that a net profit. Then, on a lark, I bought a daily deal and got another Falcon cover. I don't recommend that, but 200 HP is about 75 cents using the Stark salary conversion rate, so every once in a while, if there is a new character, I'll roll the dice on those.

You are right, Reckless, event tokens can get as high as 25% I think, and may be worth for new characters. But he say he had spent 100HP on a token, and i gave it as granted he was referring to regular Hc tokens icon_e_smile.gif
