Yes, I Need My Fantasy Match-3 Game to Make Sense

I'm going to start by saying that I've never been a friend of the BFF event. The way it has been set up always seems to push you away from using any of the featured characters since they don't generally have the synergy to match up against a couple of champed 5's.

However, this time around it's different! Because Cage and Fist were both beneficiaries of the vaulting system, meaning that it is very possible to have both boosted to high levels, meaning their scaled powers are equivalent or better than 5*. They are also designed with each other in mind, so that they work better when they are together. Perfect pair of best friends, who even share a TV show together.

Except....they aren't boosted best friends together in this event. 4* Cage is boosted, but with 3* IF, which will get eaten alive in PvP.

Bucky is boosted, so that you can pair him with.....2* Captain America?

Kate is boosted so you can use her with 2* Hawkeye. Same with Thing and 2* Torch.

Are the Guardians best friends with each other? No. Unless you count 3* Rocket and Groot being friends with himself.

Is it too much to ask that at least a little bit of thought is put into this stuff???? At least for a theme event, allow for some inventive team synergy where you wouldn't immediately default to your two highest 5*.

Then again, this is a progression off-season, so I will have plenty of use for these **** teams as I do my best to dropcake and farm retals to hit my 40 wins and get my cover.

Ordinarily, this isn't something I would remotely care about, but considering it is a themed event, it does seem like an odd choice. It's like they went out of their way to make 1/2 of every actual BFF pairing boosted and the other half not.

It would be neat if they only boosted pairs.  For example taking Luke Cage by with Thing neither would be boosted, but take Luke Cage with Iron Fist, both get boosted.  It would be much harder to program that way, but that's how I'd like this even to work if it's feesable from a code standpoint.  I don't expect it to happen.  Best compromise is having a BFF affiliation and tagging all characters that have logical BFFs get tagged with that.  This would help them at least keep variants (looking at you hobofist) more up to date.

Speaking of Bucky and Cap (and things that don't make sense): The event background shows LCap back to back with Bucky, but 2* Cap is the one getting boosted...

But hey, apparently Howard is best friends with Gwenpool and is actually boosted.

No doubt. With the exception of a handful of 4cage/3fist teams, I'm not seeing any teams that actually seem to be the "best friends" pairs that warrant the boost.

As far as 4* Fist not getting the boost, I think we can safely assume they just forgot about it.

Yeah, this was bugging me, too. Since I got in on the seed teams and beat them with my 1*s, I've at least been able to stay low enough that I can do a father/son thing with 2* Wolverine and Daken, but again, only one is boosted. And they're not exactly friends.

IIRC, the first time this event ran, 4* Fist didn't exist. I think this is the second (maybe third?) time the event has run since 4* Fist has been added to the game, and they still haven't bothered to add him to the boost list. It's like they didn't even bother to look at nor update the boost list. Gee, shocking.

I played the event with 4* Gamora & 4* R&G, and have to say that they are wondeful together, even if unboosted. Rocket's strike tiles finished one target pretty quick and Gamora often finished the second with her passive. Very satisfying experience.

And as a thought to the matter, I expected more too, but anyways, not that big of a deal. Maybe there's a couple event too (can't remember), but I'm sure I saw Cyclops & Jean, Storm & Panther there... ore maybe it was just a contest on facebook. But that is what I wanted to see in this event.

Yes for this type of event possibly they should make it 4 star or less if that is what they are going for.

They used to have a lot of events that were very restrictive on what characters you could use and players disliked that, perhaps that is why they shy away from it now.

Personally I would like to see a variety of events but the one event at a time format kind of forces them to make everyone happy with every event since you don't usually have much to choose between.  Why they limit events is a mystery to me.

With more choices they could have the "old" style events where you only have a dozen characters available and if you don't like that event - there are other things to do.  That is the great thing about having choices.

    Dear OP,

Maybe, just maybe, the point of the event is not to ape lore (and thereby be handcuffed to lore), but rather, via the magic of the 2v2 format,  to encourage players to explore new pairings within the game itself.

    Enjoy / You're welcome.
    Then call it something else.

I've been amused by some of the teams I've seen that are the exact opposite of BFFS - Daredevil & Kingpin, for example, gave me a smile. (Do those two ever team up in any of the comics?)

Have you run across any other amusing obviously-hate-each-other pairings in this event?

I believe the idea is to try to get people to use different level heros, but again I could be wrong. Btw Kate and spider woman were a pretty powerful combo.

I saw War Machine and Carol. That made me laugh. So I killed them with Luke Cage and Thanos.

War Machine & Carol are lovers (in Captain Marvel's 2016-2017 series) and almost a rainbow team by themselves in MPQ. Why did the pair amuse you ? (Just curious).

    Also (*Spoiler Alert*)
War Machine died in Civil War 2, at the hand of Thanos and his death was the reason Tony Stark & Carol began fighting.

Yep, and under the new test system, this is exactly what I'm doing. Team gets defeated, oh well. Try another duo, it might work, it might not. Mean time, I can let my power duos that I know will work heal without using heal packs.

As long as C4rol can be BFF with Medusa, I'm good with it.

Back from the grave, reunited briefly, only to be killed again by Thanos. Specifically why I used Thanos matter of fact. Although, after seeing your comment, I can't believe I didn't think to kill them with Thanos and Hulkbuster! Ugh, missed opportunity!

That would've been cool indeed. Although 5 Iron Man would have been appropiate too.

I know I'm late to this discussion, but here's how I would code it (if that's the right word). Before each BFF match, on the character select screen, it would look like the old heroic events used to, with only characters who have BFFs selectable (so no Thanos, his BFF is Death). Then once you chose one character, all the characters besides that character's BFF would also lock. Example: You click on Thing, everyone locks except for 2* Torch and/or 3* Torch.

Then, because the BFF concept doesn't work well across tiers of characters (as the OP points out, 4* Cage/Fist would be way overpowered, but 4*Cage/3*Fist is meh), you would need it to run like Balance of Power, where all characters are at the same level. Alternatively, you could run the 1* and 2* tiers with just an insane amount of boost (say, +250-300 levels) to encourage creativity.

Repeat the process for the Valentine's Event, and you could even use the same code to have avengers, x-men, sinister six, team boosts (potentially).
