At what point are 3 stars usable?

I am planning to put some money into the game and buy some covers, am I better off with a hulk with 12 covers or a punisher with 10 covers? I know punisher is the better character, and he is buffed in the current event, so I was thinking that would be the better choice for now but I'm not sure about the long term, also what can they each be leveled to with that many covers?

12 covers is lvl 128 and 10 is level 102. A level 102 Punisher should be about the same as a level 85 2* character, if I remember correctly

With the exception of the Gold characters (LThor, Mr. Rogers), L102 is generally the point at which a 3* becomes more powerful than a L85 2*.

I'm a bit confused by your specific question, though, re: 12-cover Hulk vs. 10-cover Punisher. Are you looking to buy a fixed number of covers, which would either bring your Hulk up to 12 or your Punisher up to 10? When you're buying covers, keep in mind optimal builds and standout powers, too: Hulk essentially requires 5 black (optimal: 5/3/5), and Punisher is best with 5 green (optimal: 3/5/5).

If you go with Hulk you want 5/2/5 or 4/3/5 with the goal of hitting 5/3/5. Punisher probably depends on who you're teaming him with and where you ultimately want to wind up--I believe 3/5/5 or 5/5/3 are generally considered the best builds.

One thing to keep in mind is that there have been two events recently where Punisher covers were the top prize so it seems likely that he won't be the reward again for quite some time. This means you may be stuck at 10 covers for a while unless you plan to buy more covers in the near future or get lucky with tokens.

yes, I was looking to buy a set number of covers, which would bring me to those numbers, I think I will wait until I hit the 5000 point 10 pack progression reward for the season first to see if I get any covers for them there, my hulk is currently 2/2/2 my punisher is 1/1/2. I was going to buy 6 covers, was thinking of either a 5/2/5 hulk, or a 4/4/2 punisher, the rest of my 3 stars are alot farther from completion, 1-2 covers each. If i get a single cover for hulk though I guess that lets me max him so I might want to wait to get that to make sure I don't level the wrong abilities.

I would recommend heavily against the Hulk: he isn't going to make your matches any easier, and has been rotting away on my bench as a level 141. Punisher is by far the better choice for someone just getting into 3* territory.

I'd expect a 10 cover 3* to be equal or slightly better than a 2*: you should probably hold onto your hp until you can get 12-13 covers.

But really, if you're going to spend $$$ on HP, I'd seriously suggest lazy thor covers (or a 10 pack if one comes up that features him)

I would just wait it out. Even with that many covers it will take a long time before you can level a 3 star that high, it's probably better to just wait and see which covers you end up getting from tokens and using HP for the last few covers.
