Is Embalmed supposed to activate when a card is discarded from the hand?

I'm in the Trial of Zeal event fighting against "Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun" and I have noticed that whenever my "Demonic Pact" forces him to discard a creature with embalm he gets an embalm token. I thought that embalm only activated when the creature was destroyed from the battlefield. I don't think that I have ever had an embalmed creature generate a token when I was forced to discard one (such as when Demonic Pact is destroyed and I am forced to discard).

    discarded cards go in the destroyed pile.

    Thanks for the response, but it doesn't address the question. 

    The problem is: either embalmed cards destroyed from the hand create gems or they don't. If they don't, then the AI is getting an unfair advantage. If they do, then I am not getting them when I am supposed to be. 

    In both cases something is going wrong.

    my experience is discarded embalm creatures from my
    hand has created activate embalm gems for me to
    match. it works for sacred cat and I think for others as
    well. maybe you have a buggy card?

    Hey Sottyp, could you please tell us the process which you used to discard these cards, and all of the cards that were involved with the process described? I'm going to have to vouch with Hawkyh, where the discarding mechanic seemed to enable embalm creatures. Perhaps there is an issue with the type of discard method being used or with the specific Embalmed card that you're using.

    @ Tombstone:  I can't remember exactly what cards my opponent discarded, but I had to discard "Sacred Cat"

    All cards were discarded by "Demonic Pact". First his cards at the end of his turn,  then mine when he managed to destroy my Demonic Pact and it did damage to me and made me discard Sacred Cat.  I expected to get a embalm gem for the cat but didn't.  I haven't had an opportunity to see this again so I can't say if it a repeatable problem. 

    At this point I think that embalm should trigger from being discarded as the rules read "While this creature is in the graveyard, place X activated gems on the board" , so the problem is with Demonic Pact. Maybe the cards were exiled instead of destroyed?

    Unless others report similar problems, I think this can be treated as an isolated incident.
