No more masterpieces

Starting with Ixalan, Masterpieces will cease to be a regular feature of paper MTG sets.

I wondered how everyone felt about this in relation to MTGPQ?

To me, this seems like a big change in the value of unobtanium going forwards. How will you spend your jewels in the future? Will you buy as many elite packs as you can in this block to increase your chances of getting OP MPs? Or do you not consider the small chance of getting a MP worth it anyway, and so you'll just continue to pay 400j for a single card of mythic quality and be happy? Are cycling cards just so powerful that you'll never need Standard legal MPs from recent sets, so you can just sit on your jewels and hope that the next bunch of MPs aren't too far away?

Do you think D3/Hibernum will make any changes to how we can spend jewels in the future in light of this change? Let the wild speculation commence!

I've always considered elite packs a path to get mythics with the occasional bonus masterpiece, the same way I originally considered boosters the source of rares, with the occasional bonus mythic.

It'll be a while before people collect enough masterpieces for this to be a problem anyway. They can cycle the existing ones till new masterpieces are added into the pool.

For now, this is pretty much a non problem.

    Two different ideas :
They will change the price (a guaranteed mythic without the option for a masterpiece? We've had that!) and masterpieces might vanish from elite packs.

D3 regulary "promotes" cards regarding their rarity, uncommons to rares etc. So maybe they just promote some mythics to masterpieces and go on with the current system

Many of the Masterpieces have been underwhelming. With the last couple of rotations, the Mythics were superior. I won't miss them, but then again, I don't have any...

I suppose the other option would be to take powerful cards throughout Magic's history and apply them to PQ as Masterpieces: Especially cards that are part of the Reserved List in paper Magic that got art updates via Vintage Masters on MTGO. THAT would be pretty exciting.

    LIke...

Time Vault (6 - Colorless Support)
Activate 3: You gain 1 swap.

Black Lotus (3 - Colorless Support)
At the beginning of your turn, this support is destroyed, then 6 gems are converted to your planeswalker's colors.

Wheel of Fortune (9 - Red Spell)
Each planeswalker discards their hand and draws six cards.

    Su-Chi (8 - Colorless Creature - Construct)
When this creature dies, you gain 8 mana.
    4/4

Considering that the last time we were introduced to a plane with exploration as a major theme, we had reserved cards inserted into packs as "Hidden Treasures". Maybe we could have Hidden Treasures like these in Puzzle Quest? Maybe make Hidden Treasures the new Masterpieces?

    Or how about this:

    Gold Rules(1 - Blue Spell)
Pay $4.99: You win the game.

Probably needs to be an exclusive,  bundle it with 10,000 runes and 125 jewels for $99.99.
