Nissa 3 or Dovin Baan?

I've saved up nearly enough for a two color PW.  Of course, the two I'm most interested in are available now and next week so I can't afford both.

I like Nissa's abilities better, but WU is a more useful combination.  Which one should I get?

Probably DB, as he has a unique color combination. Kiora's abilities are better than N3, so you'll want to be buying her in the long run, and if your resources are scarce you might not want to buy both. DB is absolutely God Tier in Legacy; in Standard, he gives you access to Cast Out and Renewed Faith (along with all that bluey goodness), but he can sometimes struggle for mana, particularly if you're trying to go for objectives like the Embalm one. If you've got Bounty of the Luxa, it'll sort that right out, so I'd have no hesitation recommending a purchase. If not, Irrigated Farmland is good, but it's not even close to unfair... take my opinion under advisement and see what some other people have to say in this thread.

I personally am more of a fan of Nissa, Steward of Elements over Dovin Baan.

"Nissa3" seems self-sufficient in the sense that it turns non-Cycling cards into Cycling cards, which you can then use to feed into her 3rd ability, Aspire. I'm a big fan of green, ramp decks in paper MTG though, so I might be biased :p

Having said that though, you can find more information in the Deck Strategy & Planeswalker Discussion category, should you want a closer analysis of both.

like nissa andas for her abilities have well over a year before you have to worry about them cycling out of standard. she is strong with good cards but green is struggling for health gain so with a bad first hand start you got problems. Baan strong not a huge fan of the gains but the white blue combo gives you good options for events, and with cycling he still works well, my money would be on dovin honestly just because if you have all 3 locked down with cast out the game is over

I should probably point out that I already have Kiora.

If you have Kiora, I'd say Dovin.  If you didn't have Kiora, I would have said save for Kiora and buy Dovin. So...

Keep in mind that Dovin, while powerful, does suffer from relatively mediocre mana unless you have enablers. It's the one thing that keeps him from being, say, Saheeli-like in power.

true mad wren got kiora and nissa3 about same time like n3 better honsetly but i dont have gem changers except the cycling one and lucked out and got the sandworm convergence early when amk came out so n3 was pretty much set to be strong

having now had a chance to try, nissa3 is not as
good as kiora. most noticeably on recovering from
a bad round. her 2nd ability is awkward. you
ideally should have her 3rd ability out before her
2nd. I'm voting dovin baan. his colour combo is
good and his abilities flow better with or without
the use of energise aware cards.

I have Dobin, Kiora and Nissa 3.

I like Dobin and Kiora much more than Nissa3.

Understand me, she is cool but her best ability, the 3rd one, costs 21, too much to be useful in enraged events, that are very popular in this game.

Depends on the cards you have. Dovin is a lot more versatile than N3, and N3 will be a lot less useful once Drakes rotate out of standard, but that's a year from now at least. If you have drakes/new perspectives, you will breeze through everything with N3.

When it comes to using a drake deck, N3 is a win more, not an actual help in the strategy.

Any walker with unconditional mana generation as skill 1 is immediately always usable as at least a mid tier walker IMHO.

Buy crystals and get both. Seriously.

Thank you all for your input.  I've decided to go with Dovin Baan.  I'll end up 200-300 crystals short of getting them both this time around.

It's tempting to buy some crystals but I've been happier since I went FTP after they killed off the big boxes.  I'll just have to wait a few weeks until she comes round again.  I don't have the runes to level one PW let alone two, so that probably works out better in the long run.

Dovin will give you access to Cast Out and good cycling cards which seems to be the best way to beat the 3rd node of the usual weekend event if you're struggling there. If that's the case then Dovin for sure. If you already have Kiora I personally have a hard time justifying 2 blue/green PW regardless of abilities but that's just me.

I have no idea what this part of your post means.

N3 doesn't help a drake deck win. It helps it win harder.  A drake deck that would have lost would still lose no matter what N3 does. A drake deck that would have won just wins harder from N3 abilities.

N3 just helps it win more.

Of all the win more examples this is pretty much the extreme actually because drakes set a two turn clock regardless of whatever else you put on the board.

So you could say that N3 drakes is the king of win more combos.

I like Dovin personally, I always have fun turning the feilds into a glowing mess and then chaining a whole bunch of them, getting 40 extra damage per turn with perfect
