Throwing in the towel

Springs Posts: 29 Just Dropped In
I just finished the uninstall of this game. After a year of play i found my distaste for what is considered common accepted practice to reach the breaking point.

1. Bugs - cycling doesn't work...can freeze the game. Opening objectives on your opponents turn ...can freeze the game. Try opening a pack..bugs outs and puts the cards in your inventory ....maybe

2. Drop rates. When I looked through my collection of over 1000 cards it's easy to see that something was not right with probability. The current set, I have 5 rares that I have over 15 of, yet 3 rares I can't seem to get. All other rates minimum of 5 each (base rares).

2.5 Drop rates. 12 premium packs of the new higher drop rate packs (60 packs total)in two days. Not one of the new rares/mythics. Not to mention only 2/12 had anything other than the one guarenteed rare. When I look to the gold standard card game (hearthstone) they at least have a mercy rule, based on packs open.

3. Unubtainium. 11 packs opened..zero masterpiece.

4. Trust.  Do I think the game designers will fix the bugs, show honesty by posting drop rates, or react to the hundreds of posts of concerns on these boards? No.

I wish everyone the best of luck

I'm not surprised you're burned out – you are playing a lot. Eleven unobtainium packs required a lot of playing time to acquire. I can relate to everything you said about bugs and a lack of transparency. I've played daily since the game came out and have 0 masterpiece cards in my collection. Randomness can be lumpy. I went an entire month with only one pulled mythic. That was despite cashing in a pile of hoarded crystals on new AKH premium packs. Then there was a week with five new mythics and life was good again. Take a break and maybe things will be fresh when you come back. Even the sexiest spouse can get on your nerves and it's even worse when they aren't putting out.....

Just pointing out that with the "exchange a dupe" system, those eleven packs could have represented a much smaller number of earned/expended jewels than presumed.

Fair point indeed. That is a silly system. Needs to be a guaranteed new card the first time. Crafting should give jewels and jewels should give guaranteed new card - easy.

I do agree with all your points. I get very angry when game gets freezed out. Its a known bug. After detroying servos, or after summoning drakes. I put some money in the game, but im really dissapointed since the card i bought doesnt work as it should.
So, do you think its fair? shouldn't I clai, a compensation for having a product that is not what it was intended? Was I cheated by D3? After sending tickets the only answer I got is that "they're working in that". But those bugs are well known for months and time flow and the patience of the customers passes by.
Are they intended to make money with this app? Well... if the answer is "yes", work for that! I can pay their ridiculous high price ocassionally... (a lot of players here cannot, and that just translate in lost money for D3, but thats another and well known discussion) , but I will not do it if I dont see I can get fun and not angry with my cards and gaming experience.
Rates are wrong, yes, but what hope do we have if they do not fix even the game mechanics for players who pay $40 for a single card?
Can anyone explain me this absurdness?

Sorry you're leaving.  Regarding some of those stats:

According to mtgpq.info, five AKH of the newly released AKH rares aren't lootable yet: Dispossess, Harvest Season, Pull from Tomorrow, Seraph of the Suns, and Soul-Scar Mage.  I'm not sure if you're missing three of those and somehow got hold of the other two, or if you're accounting for those 5 unlootables and are missing 3 lootable cards.

The odds are 36% that a single Premium Pack will have no rares or better apart from the guaranteed one.  So you'd expect it to happen to 4 of your 12 PPs.  If it happened to 10 of them, it's exceedingly unlucky.

Given those rarity results, the chances of getting no newly released mythics or rares would be about 40% and 12% respectively, which would be rather unlucky.

There seems to be a 10% chance of a masterpiece from an elite pack; at that rate, the chance of zero MPs from 11 elite packs is 31%.  So it's a little unlucky.

I completely agree that D3 are shooting themselves in the foot by not having a pity timer like Hearthstone.  By leaving it all to chance, 10% of all players will experience bad luck which has only a 10% chance of happening.  That's a lot of players!  If being in the bottom 10% is the degree of bad luck that's enough to make people stop playing, then D3 can say goodbye to 10% of the whales and other paying players they could otherwise have retained, just like that.  A pity timer could save those 10% from being so luck deprived, without much impact on the other 90%.

I'm in the 10% I think with the AKH boosters, and can attest to how bad it feels when you're running bad.

Drop rates definitely seem odd lately. I've seen a lot of people try to math out drop rates. If the drop rates really are what I've seen, I wouldn't really call them good. Rng is random, so I can't be entirely upset. It would just be an easier pill to swallow if it came with a glass of transparency. The complete avoidance of the topic is a big part of the reason so much of the community is so disgruntled. Communicate with us. You announce a new feature that could potentially be awesome. Then we're getting to the point where it should, theoretically be released and instead we get "delayed til question marks because developing is hard" followed by more radio silence. We have a list of bugs the length of my arm that are listed as known with no word of what might be being worked on or when they may be fixed. Just "we're focusing on the new cards" I don't like to be too harsh. I understand what goes into software development, but I also know that the cards have been released in waves, so why no bug fixes with the new cards? It just looks, from our end, like nothing is happening on the development end. I know that isn't true, but I would be nice to have some reassurance in the matter. This is a game that would like our money, after all. Tell me what I'm paying for.

I agree completely. Unfortunately it isn't likely to ever be the case.  Compared to other games, like Fire Emblem Heroes, they don't seem to want to reward players for playing their game, or motivate them to build collections.

I've not yet updated the database flags for the newly added cards - I'll get them tomorrow
