Tile Strength and Partners

A while ago I posted a thread in GD about tile strengths and partners (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3664). This can be thought of as an updated version of that post with a bit more information. The original post grouped the characters by the colors of their tile damage (not to be confused with the colors of their abilities). However this leaves out the important information of strength. For example Although Punisher and Hulk are both Green Red Black tile users Punisher's Black > Green > Red while Hulk's Green > Red > Black.

ATM characters of the same star rating and level all* have 3 colors they are good with. One is high, one is medium, and one is low. The other three colors are all tiny in comparison. Although the three tiny colors do have different strengths from one another (ex Punisher's Purple > Blue > Yellow) they are only 1 point different at max level so the tiny colors will be left out of the summary. In the future we may see some characters who do not follow this pattern (like having weaker abilities but stronger tile matches) but for now all* the characters follow this three color system. This may not hold true for 4*s since data on them is lacking on the wiki but I will just assume they follow the numbers posted by IceIX for Fury in his thread. So as taken from in game and the wiki the High Medium Low numbers at max level for each rank are...

1* 31, 27, 24
2* 50, 45, 39
3* 67, 60, 52
4* 70, 62, 55

Note that these apply even for characters with only two abilities who can not currently reach the normal level cap of their star rating. If they were to level up to their normal cap they would get these numbers. Now for the asterisk. The ONLY character this does not apply to is Ragnarok. Unlike other 2 skill characters he actually has unusual tile strengths. He actually has no High or Low numbers and his Red and Green are both Medium (aka 60 at level 141). His tinys are also odd with two 11s and two 10s instead of a 11, 10, 9 like other 3 stars. But we are ignoring those here.

Everyone else: H/M/L
Ragnarok: x/MM/x

This brings us to the topic of the original post. I will include it and update it here since this probably belongs in character discussion. Here are the 2 character combos that cover all six colors. These are important to note because if you use two of them then no matter the third (say a featured character for a tournament) you will have the rainbow of damage.

So there you have it our updated tile strengths. As was the case in the last post we are missing many color combinations. However breaking it down by high/medium/low we see that there are even more missing. While every three color combination has 6 unique H/M/L groupings no color combination has more than 3 for now.

Some discussion topics...

Who would you like to see fill in holes in the color and order vacancies?

Do you think there should be more characters like Ragnarok who break from the H/M/L 3 color system? If so should they do it like him with x/M M/x or would H/x/L or H H/x/x be better? What would a 4 color character be like?

Should more effort be put in to "filling holes"? Both the upcoming characters Falcon and Fury feature Yellow/Blue/Purple a combo already covered by Spider-Man***. Should the color or more likely order of these colors have been changed to hit missing ones? For those into Magic the Gathering this is very similar to the 2 color Planeswalker problem/debate. This problem/debate recently ended with a glut of missing 2 color combination walkers being printed in the most recent block (the final 3 of the 10 possible combos).

I will try to keep this post updated and bump it when new color orders or combinations are released.

EDIT:
5/19 Added The Sentry (and L Daken)

  • Great work!

As to Rags I imagine they will fix his color strengths when they add on a third power. Otherwise he would be a high health utility damage dealer that rarely takes damage on offense.

    Great post!

Apparently I get my birds of prey confused lol.
  • You forgot Grey suit Black Widow - she is red/green/purple and therefore matches with the first group of "lonely hearts" (Hood and Black Panther).

akboyce only took the tile strength colours, not ability colours, GSBW is there:
    Purple/Blue/Black
    Black Widow GS***

One other bit of useful information is that a 3* character will have his H/M/L reach 31/27/24 at level 55 and reach 50/45/39 at level 98, so based just on match damage (not abilities) that's when they meet your 1* and 2* teams. Not sure when a 2* character reaches 31/27/24, probably level 52 or 53.

What I'd like to know is a reference for when a character will tank other chars with "stronger" values... So at what level does a 3* character's High reach 52 and 60, and when does the Medium reach 52?

The problem is I believe there is a hidden decimal place that is not listed on the wiki. I have had some cases where the in game number of two characters tile strength was the same but the rear character got to make the match. I have seen reports of this and BELIEVE it has happened to me as well but no concrete proof so I do not want to list it as fact.

Taking someone else's post from the Falcon thread....

Honestly, sometimes I match yellow I can't even use just to let patch soak the hits

IceIX, would it be possible to see the protect tile values at the breakpoints at 103 and 123? (For underleveling to keep him from taking tile matches)

These line up with the wiki numbers but I have not tested them myself so grain of salt and what not.

If I can get some confirmations or once I happen to have characters at those levels to verify myself I will add that info to the original post.

Yes, there are decimals. For what we know, if two characters have the same rarity and order of strong colours, these values should be identical. i.e. the Hulk, cMagneto and Patch have the same strength red at the same level.
