How do I recover from not starting "correctly"...

I was lured to try MPQ by the Marvel Insider deals going on. I've been a hardcore Contest of Champions player for a few years. I've been frustrated by the lack of top end content and content that rewards out the effort put in at the higher levels of play.

I see that seems to be happening in this game as well.

The question:

When I started, I think I got loopy on all of the new champs available at cheap prices compared to the level of effort I had to put out in MCoC to progress even a tiny bit at the level I'm at.

I currently have 65 champs. (I apologize if this gives anyone rage because I know how much I hate it when newbs show up in MCoC and have all of the champs I've been struggling to get)

5* Hawkeye

12 4* champs
Blade
Mordo
Gwenpool
CM
Medusa
C&D
Gamora
Howard the Duck
IF
Riri
Hulk
Thing

30 3* champs
BP (fully covered)
A bunch with 4-6 covers

All the 2* champs with the following covered and champed:
Classic Storm
Thor
Ares
CM
BW Original
(The rest with the exception of Bag Man are fully covered, not champed)

I was doing ok on PvE quests at SL4 until this new scaling came in and I can finish at an OK level, but some of the fights are way too hard compared to a few weeks ago when I started.

I spent what I was spending on MCoC (plus some extra when it seemed like I was getting tons and tons of new champs) but now I'm done with this crazy initial spend and want to be more methodical.

Any suggestions on what to do from here?

I'm going to keep champing my 2*s are building my 3*s.

I still have all of my 1* champs rostered. Do I only keep 3 for the daily deadpool?

I've seen a lot about farming 2*s but it doesn't seem like the math works out. Is this an original strategy that was nerfed when they found out it was too beneficial? It doesn't seem like the best way to attack the game anymore.

The info around MPQ is definitely hidden a little better than MCoC.

Any thoughts, tips, etc would be appreciated.

I'm also in a pretty casual alliance and would consider going into a more serious alliance. My IGN is MMCskippy.

I think you are on the right track. So basically, you are a 2*->3* transitioner. I would say keep doing what you are doing. Collect more 3* characters and champ them.

Spend Hero point on only roster slots and roster slots only for now. Don't spend any resources on the tokens (their odds are not worth the price you pay). Open them only when you get them from rewards.

Your 5* Hawkeye is responsible for the difficulty jump you see. Basically, this game adjusts the difficulty based on your roster strength. No one knows how the strength is determined exactly, but it is something along the line of the average level of the top 4 characters. (In your case, that lv255 is what killing you) I don't know whether it is worth keeping him and try to bring up the 3* to ease the pain or better selling him to keep the scaling down.

Thus, stop spending CP and/or open Legendary tokens. Your roster is not strong enough to handle it if you're "lucky" to get a 5* yet. (I know it sounds weird, but it is what it is.)

Check out numerous character ranking, review, etc threads and decide which one you want to focus on both 3* and 4*.

Since you already have many 2* champed, you can sell the 1* to open up some roster slots. Keep one for doing the DDQ. Either 1* Spidey, 1* Ironman, or Jugg is fine. Jugg is considered the best 1* by the way, but the other two can do the job just fine.

I am not aware of 2* farming being nerfed recently. But it is indeed a slow investment (with a decent payout). The main payout, in my opinion, are the 375 hp and 200 xp for each time you recycle a 2*. (But it you are a spender, these two may not sound appealing).

Also, join an alliance. Look for a good active one on the alliance sub forum and join them. There are plenty of alliances looking for good players around.

Edit: Note to self, never try to wake myself up by posting something on the forum again. So many typos. lol

I think he is confusing the terminology a bit. If you say champ, to most players that means a character who is championed. So that makes the OP sound like he has 12 championed 4 stars which means he shouldn't be having any trouble due to the 5 star. It would help if he posted clarification or a link to the actual roster.

I do have to say I may have mixed up terms.

The only characters I've spent the ISO on to "Champ" them are my 2* characters.

All of my other characters are in the process of covering.

I have 13 covers on all of my 2* champs except bag man (I don't know why I even have him on my roster)

I only have 13 covers on my 3* BP, but I haven't earned enough iso to level him up to 166 so I can champ him.

    Is that clearer?

I'd consider selling 5* Hawkeye, but I pulled him from a classic legend pack and thought I can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    It's only 2000 ISO to sell a 5* cover (what a rip)

If your only champions are 2 stars, then you need to sell 5 star Hawkeye. Don't open any legendary tokens or spend any CP until you at least have several 3 stars championed. After that, it will be more difficult but still manageable with a 5 star rostered.
Sell all the 1 stars except either Jug or Iron Man. You can complete DDQ with only a single 1 star.

First, I agree with the advice to not open legendary tokens or spending CP for now. You need to get your 2/3* roster under control before worrying about that, and if you don't open them, you'll have them when you need them (which will be when you have a good number of 3* champs and want to start building 4* characters).

Looking at your roster, I agree with spatenfloot that you only need 1 1* character. You have IM35 at level 50, he's good enough. It doesn't hurt to have more than one 1*, but you can roster more 3/4* without spending more money by selling your other 1* characters.

Getting to the main question, I'll answer it with a question. Do you find PVP to be too hard right now, in that the enemies are way higher level than you are? I suspect it's a bit high right now, but will get better as you get more covers into 3*. If you're suffering, then sell the Hawkeye cover. I added my first 5* cover not too much later in the progression than you did, and it hurt for a short time until I started getting boosted 3* champs in events. After that, I didn't notice it.

I've never felt the need to sell a 5*, but then I've also never felt the need to use them, so I may not be the right guy to ask (as a point of data, I have 22 4* champs, all of the 5* rostered but none with more than 8 covers and none that is really usable).

Hope that helps, and good luck!

    1. Sell your 1*s, (keep Ironman, he can solo Deadpools daily)

    2. Keep farming 2*s, its a great way to get 3* covers, iso, hp and cp. (Sell them when maxed/repeat)

    3. Save your cp and legendary tokens. (You will need them later.)

    4. Spend your hp on roster slots and collect as many 3*s as possible.

    5. Dont spend iso on 4* and 5*. Use them to level your 3*. (Its a slow process but if you dont want to spend a huge amout of real money on the game then this is the way to go.)

    6. To know wich 3*s to spend iso on first. Read in the forum. There are alot of good information if you spend some time reading.

Good luck and welcome to the world of MPQ :)

This is all awesome advice that I'm currently taking.

@abominatrix PVP is too hard for me right now but I seem to be hitting a spot in the game where I am getting a fair amount of 3* covers. I've got Kamala at 4-0-1 and she's helping me get through some of the tougher fights with her regen. I have 3* DS at 0-5-1 and I'm probably going to use my next set of 20 CPs to level up the Flames of Faltine because it really helps you get through a ton of fights.

3* BP is my workhorse at the moment. I need to look up the best way to use him, but I have him at 4-4-5 right now.

I'm progressing 2*s based on how many covers I have in my inventory. Whoever has the most gets all of my iso.

    One question:
I had favorited my 3* BP and have been getting bonus cover pulls. I have 3 covers sitting in my queue. I only need 34,000 iso to get him to level 166 which shouldn't be an issue over the next 2 weeks.

I'll check the forums for good strategies around favoriting champs, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd take them!

As you have noticed Doctor Strange will get you through pve when fighting non title movers so get him champed asap. Other good 3*s are Ironman 40, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Scarlet Witch. There are other usefull characters but if you can manage to champ theese first you will do fine in both pve and pvp.

Black Panther is definitely good. I don't remember the order of his powers, but I run his blue at 3 and the other two at 5. There are other ways to get better Protect Tiles more easily, but his Strikes can just be monstrous, especially if you pick up the Teamup AP to boost them, and his AoE is vicious, especially if you can mitigate the downside somehow, like saving it until you're going to down the character who uses the colour it will give them.

Sorry; I meant PVE not PVP... You should tackle PVP incrementally (first, try to get to 300, then to 575, then up from there. For where you are now, even 300 may be a bit much, but once you have 3* champs you should be able to get there.

Agreed with TPF on Panther. He also pairs well with Strange Blue and any number of red/green users in 3* land. You can't go wrong with that for now. I would favorite him until you can get him champed. Panther is in tokens, so you'll continue to get his covers and for now, you should be thinking of getting a roster of 4-6 solid characters as champs (and of course, more after that). talleman's list is a good one, but I would add Thor to it. Most of the ones he mentions are support characters that have use in 4* land, but for the next several months you'll be in 3* land... There, besides good supports with a punch like IM40 and Kamala, the heaviest hitters are Captain America , Cyclops, Panther and Thanos (Magneto and Thor are also very good, but since they're vaulted, you won't see too many covers). Oh, and Deadpool... Whales always work when needed, even in 5* land.

Anyway, you're asking the right questions. Are you in an alliance? Alliance chat is always a good place to get questions answered as you're moving up in the game.

    Good luck!

Do you play more PVE (story) or PVP (versus)? If you prefer PVE- keeping a 5* Hawkeye isn't that bad because he can help you clear the nods faster and take most of the damage. In PVP, having a 5* isn't helpful at all.

For PVE, the best 3* characters to have are Dr. Strange and Iron Fist, because they have passive that kill the enemies without you having to do much. For PVP, Kamala Khan is great (she's vaulted, but she's worth championing), Thanos, Luke Cage, Dr. Strange- characters with good passives are better when played by the AI, which lacks any strategy. Iron Man is good to boost other character's powers.

I'd favourite doc strange and work at maxing him. Just save you cp until you have a bunch of three stars maxed. Don't spend them on powers unless you need to save a bunch of covers for a hero and you only need one cover to champion.

Sell Hawkeye and stop opening purple tokens. Save your CPs and purples until you're ready to spend them. Understand that is a long way away. By long, I mean until you have a 4* roster worthy of supporting a 5* transition. This takes a long time. This game cannot be bought overnight, unless you're filthy rich and insane.

Build your 2* roster to transition to 3* while farming. It's a really slow game. Depending on how much you play, you could be in 3* land in 6 months, or have played 900 days and just start transitioning to 4* land.

Roster as as many players as you can except 5*s and only level your 2 and 3 star characters.

I sold 5* Hawkeye... and then immediately got into the top 25 in PVP in SL6 without spending a gajillion coins on revives.

To echo other comments, I'd say Juggs is the best 1*; since both his abilities are only 6ap, he seems to have the fastest clear for DDQ. For favouriting covers, I tend to prioritize ones where no matter what cover I pull, it won't go to waste. So either one that's champed, or is like 4/3/4 or some other similar amount where I'm *close* to champing it, but I can't get a cover that's already maxed, so there's no chance of wasting it.

I'm also personally not against using 20 cp to get an important cover for a 3 star I'm ready to champ. At this point, I have all of them champed except a few I don't care about, but when I didn't, it was worth it to get that last cover I really needed.
