Less nodes in PvE

As someone who doesn't really mind scaling, I find The Hunt to be pretty unexciting to play, and after thinking about it, I realized it's because there's a lot of nodes and they're all basically the same. Now I know given the story you can't just randomly fight other people, so as a compromise we should just have less nodes. I think the episode 4 structure works well, where you got 2 sub brackets with 5-6 nodes plus the bonus one, and since there are only 5 or 6 nodes, it actually feels like you're fighting different stuff as you'd go from say Daken, then Dr. Doom, then The Hood, and then maybe some other DAs. In The Hunt it's more like Daken, more Daken, and even more Daken. Other than the less appearance of Daken in episode 4, I don't feel those nodes are any weaker than any other event in terms of force composition. Some combinations are actually quite nasty like Dr. Doom + 2 doombots (Technopathic Strike by turn 3!), but at least it's not Daken again.

I didn't even bother doing all the story nodes this time because of too many level 395 Dakens in the way.

My clear cycle has turned in to:

Do all nodes with enemies under 100... wait 12 hours... do all nodes with enemies between 100 and 200... wait 12 hours... do all nodes with enemies over 200

Outside of the first 4 or 5 subs I haven't done a single node more than once.
  • i found the hunt pretty uninteresting to play after the 2nd time... nothings changed icon_lol.gif

all the enemies are 300+ and they're combinations of daken, bullseye, ares, venom so yeah pretty boring.
  • I think they need more villains, simulator is the most interesting because of the huge variety. but that's the only event where they can draw from the complete stable of characters.

We could use skaar, iron patriot and the sentry to help give these events more variety.

In the events defense, there are a lot less repeatable nodes as The Hunt has been run previously so it does seem they've tried to address it.

To be honest I think the main issue with the event is that they only need to rerun each sub at most twice. Elongating the event with the same subs (repeated like 4 times) just gets tedious. It's basically the same as running the same event back to back but with less placement rewards.
  • I realize they want to stick to the story but if you look at the Ares mission it reads: "Norman Osborne has apparently recruited Ares... the god of war". Was Ares out on a street with a sign 'will work for iso 8?' And if you can just pick up the God of War on the street for 100 iso 8, why restrict to such a small roster of villians? In Heroic Venom, Spiderman (classic) wasn't even a usable character even though all the cutscenes involve him fighting Venom.

In Simulator Basic the wider array of enemies allow better tuning overall. For example we're all familiar with the Bagman nodes, but why Bagman over Spiderman? Or the enemy team that has Magneto MN over Magneto Classic? Because that way it prevents you from using certain characters without being too hard. In these DA themed mission there are only 3 difficulty settings: Daken, Juggernaut, and everyone else, and the first two are pretty much ridiculous from a difficulty point of view.

Something else to consider is that this event is a rerun of an older event. The newer events (iso brotherhood, revamped heroics, etc) are all significantly less grindy than this one, so I would wait till 4.5 and see what they do then.

Just because this is an older event doesn't mean they can't apply the lessons from the newer stuff. I don't mind them rerunning older events, but just because things were messed up in the past doesn't mean you've to repeat it when you rerun the event.
  • We could definitely use some anti-daken abilities, like 'turn all yellow tiles into black' -- I'd be happy to exchange BP's Battleplan for that. Even a more realistic numbered version, like what Doom has.
  • In the past these events were FUN. Both Hulk and Hunt lives with good memories in most people. for this run I didn't hear a single praise -- even from jozier.
