Maybe we judged standard too quickly?

I don't know about you all, but somehow I find myself enjoying standard play now that I've had time to build up a modest collection of new cards (still no mythics, but this isn't about drop rates).  There are some fun combos (even ones that don't have cycling, gasp!) and its nice to be deck building again.  I got a little lazy for a while there.

Maybe standard really isn't that bad?  I've noticed complaints about it have gone down too, so perhaps I'm not the only one feeling this way

Personally, I like standard, and the challenge of building new decks.

Cycling is a problem, but nobody really wants to dog it like we did with Baral because in the hands of the UI, it's useless and an automatic win.

They should never have let New Perspectives out the door like that, and Drake Haven gets out of hand way to quickly.

I completely agree but then again I was never against it in the first place.

I was never against it either. Its interesting. And not like I can't play with legacy cards. I can go all out in TotP everyday.

We always liked standard.  In fact, we pretty much demanded it as a necessity.

standard would have been better received if it had
better synergy with decks slots. players should be
more willing to try standard knowing that they do
not need to dismantle their trusty old legacy deck
to do so. this would have effect of adding standard
    to games rather than replacing.

I see standard as being similar to something like
    the colour restrictions.

Yup, I was always in favor of standard. But I've been liking it more and more if you don't think about the stale events. New events and two versions of Trial of the Plains (legacy and standard) at 30 crystals would be perfection.

While its true I haven't been super active in the forums lately I remember when standard came out (not too long ago) and the forums were overwhelmingly negative.  Granted they're like this for every major update, usually before the update is even out, but I didn't see much support for it except from super high level players with every card anyway.

@hawkyh1 they did introduce standard the same time as deck slots, so technically that isn't an issue, although because of the costs I just make a new event deck every event with standard cards so I don't have to dismantle the old ones

I like it -- I've liked it from the start -- and I'll keep liking it.

It got me out of a rut.

Its incomplete : no legacy events for coalitions, as of yet no masterpieces that stay legal

Always liked standard and advocated for it's creation.

More than anything, it has however highlighted just how bad and bland legacy is, welcome to seeing the same 3 cards spammed over and over...

as opposed to seeing new perspective and drakes retreat in all the standard decks? Just because the ai bungles it doesnt mean that everyone isnt using the same cards  with the 3rd being what ever works best for that color is all.

Frankly those decks are relatively rare to meet in platinum, sure it happens and then it gives a free win, but more often than not, they will be fairly varied. Heck, my last games featured stuff like prison hixus, gaeas challenge, and even met a few decks that tried to play outright burn or focus on tokens. While cycling is the absolute best strategy, and in some events the only one you can truly rely upon when facing certain objectives, it is not a very efficient strategy, or very fun to play with, which is why you see a lot of people trying to mix it up.

Not so with spamming olivia and pig and mirrorpool. Also if they are blue they will almost guaranteed to be a ramp deck featuring turn to frog and trap in the moon. Considering how big the card pool is, legacy is incredibly monotone.

honestly all of mine in cycling have the 2 standards plus curator of mysteries(mythic)  rest cycling i can discard the non cycling cards and draw extra ones hopefully cycling to keep it going. got drakes up to 1000+ before i quit due to utter boredom and phone lagging down. yes crazy and  stupid over power with the right cards. i just commented because if people are  going to complain at least they should be doing the same things they are  whining about with the same few cards everybody uses. those cards are used because they work plain and simple.

Standard for PVP event is good.

The problem is Standard PVE event + terrible drop rate + All MP/mythic boss deck

If we don't have something like cast out or powerful cycle deck, the standard PVE event is still unplayable for most player.

I don't agree with that. There's great control options if you think outside of the box. In fact, Cast Out and cycling are useless against hexproof cards, but a good defender will take them right out.

I'm doing better in Standard PVE than I ever did in Legacy.

So @bken. How are you beating the gods without a cast off or drake deck?

I don't'like standard much. I miss my old decks where I'd'bui;d around something fun and still make it shine (madness vampires etc) And I really hate the way standard makes most of my collection worthless.

Comparing paper to this, there are so many options to play legacy even in certain tournament settings while in PQ you are stuck with training grounds and non coalition, non competitive events.

I'd'be happier about standard if there were legacy coalition events

i was trying rai with heart of kiran and it worked sometimes but just to many embalmed creatures, i couldnt cast them fast enough to keep up not to play along to get along i use baan with cast off and hope i can get them out fast enough to save me. (usually i can) otherwise it is honestly a dull event
