Magmatic insights, cast but no discard and no draw??

had two cards in hand, swift reckoning and magmatic insight. SR had half mana accumulated, if that matters. Just drew MI for turn so swapped it and then made a gem match to cast it. 

Opp had no supports on board, so nothing to trigger (insidious will, etc). And only creatures in board are vanilla w no effects. 

MI cast and it shows in log, but no effect. SR stays in my hand (though it also ended up with full mana to cast) and No cards drawn. No target for SR, but with its mana full is THAT why MI didn't discard or draw?  

please advise...game increasingly getting less fun when a new player like myself just dumped a bunch of real money into game (life long mtg player, level1 judge) but routinely have to just GUESS as to how some cards will react with each other. Ugh.

I have noticed this as well, though it doesn't seem like it always works/fails.
