Retaliation Benefits

Is it possible to actually benefit from a retaliation war? If I fight someone even with me, I think I get more than my opponent loses. So (barring time limitations and other attackers) couldn't we both slowly climb the ladder in events? I'm thinking of those early situations in tournaments where the max opponents I see are no higher than I am. The build wouldn't be huge, but it might get you over a benchmark goal. If retreats work, time isn't an issue either.

Hypothetically, perhaps you could. But once you get high enough, you become an attractive target for the zombie hordes. So you might get decent points from one opponent, but you'll be getting hit by a bunch of other players for 35+.
  • And add health packs/healing to the limitations as well.

Health packs could be avoided by using your weak roster. You don't win, so they don't become an accidental tank. And you'd be fodder to the horde even if you didn't do this. The only way to avoid that is to shield. I don't even have the ability to do this bc I don't actually know anyone I fight to agree to try. Just thought it was an interesting possibility.
  • It's fine to have a retaliation war with someone with roughly equal score as you if all your other choices are either significantly lower points than you, or significantly stronger than you in roster strength, or possibly both. You get about 3-4 points in one cycle of retaliate up until around 1000 range and if every other choice you've to attack is worse, that's still better than nothing.

With the recent changes to MMR you'll probably be able to find a better target, but if not (perhaps because your roster is very weak), a retaliation can be your best choice.

A retaliation war with someone with the exact same score will be a zero-sum game. 25 points is the value of someone equal to you. So you beat them for 25 points and they take it back by beating you.

Now what does sometimes happen is someone way above you decides to teach you a lesson and decides to retaliate against you. Then, you gain more than you lose. I went from 950 to 1100 in a PVP the other day because someone hit me for 6 points. I hit him for 45. He came back for 9 points. I hit back for 40. Each round, I gained more than I lost. I finally shielded to end the retaliation war when I was worth 19 to him.

It's not zero sum game. Even at around 1000 if you got 2 guys with exactly the same score hitting each other, the winner would get 25 and the loser would lose like 23, so each person nets a +2 after one round of retaliation.

Now that's not exactly a great deal but if all your choices are guys worth 10 points with Spiderman, you might as well take the +2 over the -30 for hitting a guy worth 10 points. It's rare to have two people so close that the very small reduction in loss to make it worthwhile. Normally it'd look like you hit something for 10, he retaliates you for +40 and you lose 36 points (because it's not zero sum), but it still totally sucks from your point of view so you don't retaliate again. The only case retaliation war is useful is if two guys have almost exactly the same score, and only if nobody else looks remotely attractive.

I know its often harmfum for my score to retaliate, but i can't resist to do it.. Thats the competitive nature of the game.. Some times i can t care less about record.. Points... I found retals war one of the funniest stuff that remains after they completely jacked up the game with all their metas..
