PVP is this a joke?

In hollowpoint kiss I shielded up for 3 hours when I hit 775. Now keep in mind I grinded for that. My highest lvl char is 70. I hadn't been attacked but twice the whole time I was shielded. The moment my shield drops I was getting crushed. I would come out of a match and be negative 75 then another 50 or so after another match. No matter how good you are those odds can't be beat. Why am I getting attacked so much since my shield dropped? And how do you combat losing so many points after winning a match?

  • Shielding also bestows invisibility to all players that haven't queued you up yet. Once your shield drops, expect all hell to break loose in case you appear like an easy target.

775 points and lvl 75...I'd hit that too icon_e_smile.gif
  • That's exactly how it works since 2 weeks after shields were introduced. While shielded you're not offered as target at all. So no attacks are seen except retals from your push. Once unshielded you're back in circulation. With those points everyone sees you and obviously will attack over other guys with better company.

Also over 700ish points you're open to a wide range of attackers not just people within your MMR and point range -- attacks from low points to grab 40+ are to be expected. You should take that all into account.

  • Also keep in mind you're now on the last day of the event, everyone and their mother is going to be making some kind of a push today.
  • If you're only going to use one shield, time it so it lasts till the event end. There's no point in shielding in the middle unless you plan to grind more matches when your shield drops and then reshield.

And my father, yes he play this game.

Back on topic, if your team are weak it is not advisable that you start the event early. You should only start with less than 10 hours left. Then every one will have a lot of points so you can get more points faster. Also only shield at the end of event, shield in between fight is kinda bad at your lvl as it doesnt do you any good.

I don't agree with not starting the event early: you aren't going to lose any points under 500, and so you will use your health packs better if you push up to the point just before you get attacked, and then wait until the end and push for your final placement.

I find that joining event late usually give you less competitive bracket. It's not always true but this is the case for me for 75% of the tournament. Most of the time i join early, i need to get at least 900 to secure a top 10 finish. When i join late i was coming first with 950 points.

Depends on your definition of early: I'm not advocating joining in the first few hours, but doing it a day-1.5 days before the end of the event gives me equally less competitive brackets as well.

My only gripe is that when I'm playing in the last few hours, I win a match and then find out three people beat me while I was playing. So my characters are in 4 battles at once.

I expect to lose when I'm not playing and not shielded. I am better than the computer at playing my characters. But I don't expect to be part of a pvp gang bang.
  • I agree that the system is not ideal at the moment. I always find it odd that some game mechanic rewards me for not playing. Just bad game design, imho.
  • Since it's not real time pvp this is how it has to be.
