    For this system to be worth doing at all, it will have to have some way to eliminate (or drastically reduce) the possibility of getting more duplicates. If it ends up as simply a way to convert duplicate cards into more basic booster packs, I don't think it will create any enthusiasm or goodwill with the players.

    I wouldn't mind duplicates so much if they were actually worth something.

    The issue is that you can spend 100 USD equivalent of in-game currency and basically get nothing but a handful of runes in conversion.

    If the crafting system is built correctly, then that 100 USD / equivalent can at worst be converted into some cards missing from your library.

    Look at all the complaints about event rewards right now.  That's because "crystals" and "jewels" have a high probability of resulting in duplicate cards which are (right now) worthless.  If duplicates gain value, then the current event reward structure will also become more valuable.
