Bizarre scaling in Army of One

Army of One has been featuring some strange scaling for me this week. Background: my roster is mostly 2* characters at 85 with only one 3* character beyond that (level 89 Spidey).

During the first two days, all my opponents were grossly underpowered. I was facing mostly level 23 Punishers with maxed out 1* characters and level 50-60 2* characters. Starting last night, they disappeared and the only opponents I'm seeing now are 3* characters of level 120+. Anyone else ever experience a sudden shift of too-weak to too-strong opponents like this?

(No complaints yet--I was able to get to 700 points before the switch, and the scaling in my lightning rounds seems correct.)

  • The term you want is "MMR". Which is the system that determines which PvP opponents you face. Scaling is usually in reference to the levels of the PvE opponents.

Anywa,s I saw a similar thing happen to me in the Human Torch PvP. From 0-400 I was facing a bunch of easy rosters (mixed in with some level appropriate rosters). Then it was like a switch flipped and I was only offered the types of opponents I would normally face.

Apparently the developers have been tinkering with the MMR lately, which is actually a good thing. In the last two events I was able to avoid MMR hell and being locked in a bubble with the same three-four players, and I consider this a huge step forward in making PvP more friendly and playable. Also, it looks like tanking is now far less relevant, if not completely unnecessary.
  • The effect looks like OP said, formerly I fought lots of full-85 teams, now they offer a ton of weenies then you bump into 120+ companies without transition. The last part is about where it was before, but formerly you could see some steady increase if started well tanked.

I'm not sure what we see now is design or bug really.
