I don't see them being nerfed any time soon. I think that was the reason they allowed the nodes to go up to 400. That is to stop Spidey and C.Mag PvE abusers. The formula obviously needs some tinkering, but since most people agree that Spidey and C.Mags are fine in PvP just broken in these events, they are trying to fix both isues without nerfing. I would look to see more of a formula tweak in these events.

As usual the "fix" is worse than whatever we had before it...

And I doubt in the aim too, if those characters were actually considered bad for PVE they could be simply locked out or a negative buff applied. Scaling to 400 is just pervert.

By a startling coincidence, I just won my first Spidey cover (purple) from a lucky token pull and my first two CMags covers from the Dr. Doom event. The question is, do I spend HP to buy two more roster slots for them? It seems they're very rarely offered as rewards these days, and likely to become even more rare as more and more shiny new *** characters are added. It may take me months to level them up to the point where they're playable, and by then they might be nerfed, or some new even more awesome character may come along. Should I bother with them, or should I invest my resources in the three-stars I already have?

I don't really see the nerf as needed...Spidy is hyper strong, true, and with him you can basically beat anybody....but it takes time (and is boring), something that's often precious, so that's a nice trade-off IMO...I got 5 blue and barely even use him.

I've also found that Spidey stops being a tempting pick once you have Patch/Frank/LT/BP/Mags/Hood and the likes to choose from. While people may opt for faster characters in PVP, I would wager Spidey would still remain a major contributor to the ridiculous scaling we've been seeing in PVE. The funny thing is, that the more ridiculous the devs tune the scaling, the more Spidey will be needed.
