4* DDQ: Thing vs Torch

Wew this was frustrating. Did it after 6 or 7 tries with lv150 4/3/5 Thing, no boosts. The failing attempts, Torch kept cascading into red, black or green no matter what I did

The winning attempt, I got a great opening board with two match-5s in a row. That allowed me to use It's Clobbering Time right off the bat. Another ICT followed by a Yancy Street, and game
over

LT = Blade Red to make him 5/1/1

Won it first go with my 2/3/3 lvl 168 Ben! Read a great tip to hold off using red until you want to avoid giving HT a match as it stuns for a turn, and save green until after he gets his black off as the tile destruction will hopefully take his tiles away. I was under 2000 health by the end, so it was close.
got a wasp blue to make her 3/3/5, nice

As usual epic fail x4 despite a supposedly "good" 1-2-5" build.

Was easy with my champed level 270 5/3/5

First go, no boosts.  Torch got off a green, started leaching health points.

Hit him with a red.  Froze him long enough to match his green.

Hit him with green and he was dead.  Still had over 10K health points left.

Got a C4rol green, bringing her to 2/5/3.  Happy about that.

First try with my lv 188 5/2/2 Thing and HT lucks into a nice cascade that includes a match-5 to allow him to quickly fire off an inferno so the attack tiles could just wear me down.  2nd try and I went to be sneaky trying to get him to move me into spots to match red/green, easily won with 5000+ health remaining.

LT gave me 9th champion level for C4ge.

Side note, along with the gripe about passives that rely on ally damage to activate, then they add to that both colors you need to fire off your abilities, also happen to be HT's colors.  So you can't try to lineup red/green because he just snags them from you.

Thing is champed. Frustratingly, lost anyway. Board kept giving Torch green despite my attempts to deny it. Low costs meant he got off Fireball and Inferno too. Flame Jet ended up chunking about 1900 out of me per turn. Since he's here all week, I'll just wait for Thing to heal.

If you have a non-champed Thing and are struggling don’t feel too bad. It took me 3 goes with my champed Thing.

The board dropped and there were 2 x red 5 matches for me straight away. “ Nice “ I thought as I did them, which gave me a red power to fire off in my next go. Stunned him for 2 turns.

Oh….. No green or red on the board. “ its fine “ so I match away and he gets a green cascade that beggar’s belief. Next turn he puts down a green tile, then a second green tile on the next go,  both in the corners and both doing 1.5k a tick.

Oh look a black cascade? Oh look black power fired oh look in total hes now doing more then 3k a tick. Oh look im dead.

Similar things the next go but with reds for him.

Anyhow. Just wanted to say if you get a bad board it doesn’t matter what level you are.

2/4/1 level 152 got it on my 8th try. I almost won on my 2nd or I would have thought it was impossible and not kept going. R/Y AP boost x 2, B/G AP boost x 2, all AP boost x 2.

0/3/1. Took one shot and bailed. I know I've got no shot.

3rd time lucky for me with my 2/2/2 level 127 Thing. I used 100% match damage along with 50% R/Y and 50% G/B damage.

I managed to deny him using his red and black powers and luckily when he used his green i was able to match it straight away. During the fight i stunned him twice and used my green once.

With my LT i got a red for Medusa taking her to 3/4/5

4/3/3 level 189. Took three with boosts to get him down before getting fireballed a few times. Denying Red worked well enough, it was only bad tile drops or board reshuffles that got me the first two times.

Just realized that this is my 19th successful crash in a row o.O. Drax or Carnage are going to ruin it for me, though

My 2/5/2 build isn't ideal for the crash, but I bumped Thing to lvl 140, boosted all ap +2, all damage 100%, and r/y 50% and got the job done on the second go.  Still perma-hoarding.
As for the strategy, if you have to let Torch get one of his colors,  let it be green because flame jet can be dealt with more easily than the other two powers.

Took me 7 tries and a whole lot of boosts to win with my level 111 3/3/3 Thing. He doesn't do much damage and only has a 1-turn stun with my build. I had to get some fortunate green cascades to win.

In general, it feels like there's a lot of luck involved in this Crash. You have to focus on denying red, but if Johnny happens to bury his green in a corner or if he gets all of his attack tiles out with no team-up tiles blocking them, you've got a real problem. Also, Thing's green tile destruction is random so you have to get lucky to blow up Johnny's special tiles once they are out.

That's been the theme since DDQ started: that you 4* and the opponent have at least two shared colours. Of course there are several exceptions, but it applies for the majority of battles. This is so that when you go after a colour, it not only provides AP for your own attacks, you're denying the opponent AP for their attacks as well. In this clash, both Thing and Torch will be going after red and green. And as mentioned, you also have to go after black in order to prevent Torch's Inferno. All this adds to the strategy component of the matchups
Never really noticed that before.  I guess when the 3rd color is basically worthless in the battle (at least as far as using that special move) the 2 like colors is more noticeable because those are the ones you have to rely on

5/3/5, 180. Used AP Boosts on the 4th try to get it done.

First three were a litany of red and green cascades for Torch. Token got me a Red Hulk bonus cover so I could finish and champion him, though, so that was nice.

    Level 279 champed.

Fire one red. Fired one green. Snuffed torch like a lit match between my fingers.

For the first time ever, token stockpiled.

Got a 1/4/2, which is basically the same as a 1/0/2.  Didn't stand a chance, even leveled as high as he'll go, with full boosts.  He got off a single power (Inferno) and I had no chance.  Seems like that'll be true regardless which power he gets off, and there's no way to imagine I could deny everything.

271 5/3/5. This was a stomp. I really don't feel it lasted more than a minute. Worked on matching red and green. Fired Red, focused on green. When Torch came back from his stun I fired off his green and the resulting cascade killed Torch.

LT gave me a Gwenpool cover. She's already fully covered for me and I have other characters I'd rather champ so 1000 Iso it is.

Suffice to say, you need a good board, plenty of luck and strategically use your powers. I just beat it with a 1/3/3 Thing at lv152. Had a previous heartbreaking loss with HT down to 150 health, but just beat him with a combination of all the things I mentioned. Had about 10 tries total.

Dont just stun because you have enough red and don't smash the board with green for the sake of it. Use them to deny, set the board up for a match 5 or possibly disrupt his powers with green. I took out his attack tiles with green, absurd luck really. It's frustrating, but not impossible.

Took me over 15 defeats and repurchasing of booster cards for 50% damage with red/yellow and black/green but I was finally able to beat the Human Torch with my level 168 3/2/3 the Thing.  Basically did it with lots of luck on the board matches as well as conserving my red and green for situational uses.  Even still, I was in my last 1k of health when I finally beat him.
