Suggestion: Restructuring Rewards and Events

I'd like feedback/opinions on the idea of doing the following:

1) Remove all placement/competition from PvE Events and restructure it so all awards are given through progression only. No rubberbanding, no competing with other players - PvE as pure PvE. Make the awards difficult to get (higher scoring nodes more difficult, etc) but grindable so that there is opportunity for most (not all) to get relatively high in the progression awards if they work at it over the course of the event.

2) In tandem with this, remove all progression awards from PvP events - keep things similar to what they are now, but have awards given solely for placement in PvP.

On one hand, you can test yourself in a more intense, multi-player driven competition, and on the other you can slog away at an event without worrying about timing and other players rubberbanding you away from your rewards.

Thoughts?

  • I'd probably like it a lot more. My frustration with PVE is pretty much 100% due to its PVP aspects - the awful, ridiculous community scaling, placement being 99% dependent on end times, getting in a bad bracket on the first day killing you on the last day, etc. I'd like PVE a lot more if it weren't for the competitive aspects; I used to have more fun with it before scaling sucked a lot of the fun aspects out. Now it's a slog.

You mean turning PvE into actual PvE?
    Yes please!
  • Yeah, I really loved the idea of Heroic Oscorp being progression based instead of placement-dependent. It ended up being a neat trick: the "emphasis" on progression made the placement rewards terrible, and the poor design made the progression rewards unattainable.

Would love to see PvE that was progression-based, with alliance rewards that were progression based, and was built in a vacuum wherein no part of your game cared about anything that your opponents were doing.

This is one of the best PVE/PVP change suggestions I've seen in a long time.
