To Wasp or not to Wasp?

So how good is Wasp, really?

I'm on the verge of champing my first 4*, Cyke. Currently at 12 covers with 110cp collected already. My wasp has 8 covers. I could maybe grab 2 extra covers from PvE (possibly, I'm gonna do a lot of traveling from Tuesday), so she could be at 10.

Is she worth it? I could just spend that CP on LTs, hoping to get more Wasps and patiently wait for 10 bonus covers for Vision, which will grant me my final Cyke cover, but I wonder if Wasp is good enough to become my 2nd or maybe even first 4* champ?

I have Wasp and I’ve really loved using her since the revamp, even when she’s not boosted.  Even with her leaving the new 12 selection in tokens after this season and going in the vault, her main uses – AP steal and the strike/protect tile flipping & buffing – are both useful even if you are continuously getting champ levels on a regular basis.  If you have special tile producers in the 3* level ready to support her with special tiles (Blade, Daken, etc), you can quickly punch above your weight class after a few flips (and withstand regular match damage too).  The countdown bug (all countdowns doing 1 pt of damage when they expire, plus any buffed strike tiles you may have) is great for as long as it lasts.  And having a respect option is good for her too (to adapt to other color users)

But I don’t know if I would have her be the first 4* to start your roster at that level.  4* Cyke is a stronger choice because he can self accelerate himself if need be.  Ideally I feel the first 4* should be a strong AOE user, able to handle teams of opponents by themselves if need be (Teen Jean, Iceman, or Red Hulk with his large health pool), but understandably that’s probably not the hand you’ve been dealt.

I would get her covers, as much as you can before she leaves, but stop at 13 then go back to finish champing 4* Cyke.  Maybe have her be your 3rd or 4th champ once you’ve got some bodies to hide her behind and be a true support player.

Cyke was my first champ; I also have Wasp champed. Quite honestly, I use Wasp more than Cyclops right now if neither is boosted, but that's because I have other 4* red/blue users champed, whereas Wasp's color combination is more unusual (plus she is currently stealth-buffed by the countdown tile 1 damage bug).

That said, I do believe Cyclops is probably a better choice as your first 4*. He provides much more consistent damage output and (as Tatercat mentioned) is one of the best self-accelerators in the game if red is your strongest color. His damage numbers aren't as intimidating as they once were (due to power creep), but he is still pretty strong, and with your scaling he will still be a monster when boosted.

I'd love to have Cyclops that close to champing, but I'd be reluctant to spend that CP. Instead, I'd set Vision as my lone 3* BH, and get the cover that way. Ten bonus heroes for a 3* shouldn't take more than a fortnight or so, and by then you may have someone else to champ with him.
