The New 4-Star Meta - PVP Simulator

I tried (and failed) to reach 2,000 in PVP Simulator last Sunday, and it became clear that a majority of teams are a combination of c4rol, medusa, bl4de, wasp and peggy.  Some Rulk, but no Iceman, Jean or 4clops.  And not too many teams relying on IM40 either.  (Hello vaulting)

One thing on the new chars is that they can get going right off the bat, without using AP.  Blade red, Carol green, Medusa pink and yellow.  And Wasp blue after it gets 9, is unending.  Not always clear who to kill first.

So what teams are a good counter to these?  Any good ideas?

Climbing this early in the simulator is inherently more difficult due to the lack of points in the pool.  Rather then trying to combat strong teams now, wait until the final week and hit weaker, higher point targets, which will take less health packs and shorter amount of time.  Only after ~1500pts will you be required to hit A-Teams, I would recommend some combinations, but not sure who you're working with.

I rarely see the 4* teams anymore, but when I do (meme here), it's the ones you mentioned.

Vaulting jumps newer 4*'s ahead of your older ones (Spiderwoman is now in my top 7, ridiculous). But more than that, before you had to be RNG-lucky to get the "good" 4*'s (ice/rulk/whatever). Now everyone will be getting all of the vaulted 4*'s....so everyone will use the "good" ones: Peggy/Carol/Medusa/Blade (Coulson in 5* land).

Vaulting was just a bad decision in so many ways - but promoting a LACK of variety in gameplay is one of the obvious bad ones.

This. I wait until the last 2-3 days, and there is absolutely no shortage of teams worth 70+ points with at least one 3-star. I don't take any hits whatsoever until I get above 1800, and its not until 1900 that I actually have trouble finding high-point, easily beatable teams. All of those characters were in the vault of as last season as well, and I didnt fight any of them once.

I see a ton of Medusa, Bl4de, C4rol, Iceman, Peggy, and Rulk. Also a smattering of soft-capped 5* characters.

I beat some of them with Wasp, Fisk, and Hood. Basically, run for blue right away for Wasp and then play keep away the whole game. Doesn't work every time.

I climbed to 2000 a few days ago as one of those Blade, Peggy, Medusa teams.  I fought a couple mirror matches but there was plenty of variety out there.  Those three/wasp/coulson do absolutely dominate, but are relatively beatable.

There's never much variety late in any event at my MMR - in any PVP, it's the same 2-3 toons cycling around the queue, and sim isn't any different.  Almost like they're the optimal team or something.....

I see the old teams and the new still although a lot more new teams than there used to be which is a good thing. I was surprised to see so many OML when doing my sim climb this season but there he was.

I think Carol and Peggy will continue to be in most PvP teams until someone new plonks in with power creep to topple them from their thrones. Just like how I barely see an iceman these days where as previously I could barely find a match he wasn't in. Blue tiles made me afraid now black and red tiles do ;)

Who will be the next crazy four star to splash into our growing pool and how will Peggy and Carol feel.

Maybe there will be a fortified countdown tile you place that disables all powers of that colour until it expires

I mainly use three different teams in Sim, which seem to hold up well in offense against the combination of c4rol, medusa, bl4de, wasp and peggy teams.

C4rol, Medusa, War Machine: take down Medusa early to avoid their team healing and flood the board with special tiles as soon as she's down
Mr F, Thing and Deadpool: take down Medusa early.. again! set deadpool CD tiles which if matched will heal and give green AP. Deadpool can heal and Thing can shield on big hits
Ant-man, Ghost Rider + anyone: ummm...take down medusa early...for the 3rd C4ge is not bad for defence and at 5 black covers removes  an enemy special tile on power activation

side note on all the above teams: none of them have cheap powers, so in peggy matches it might take a while to get going, keep this in mind and maybe hold AP until you can fire a few at once.

I can get by Peggy but my teams aren't perfectly set yet.

    Vs Peggy

    TAH/Carol/Medusa
    Wasp/FalCap/TAH
    GG/TAH/4*Cage

the key is the passive damage you do while gathering AP. My TAH is champed and at 5/5/3 he's doing 1874 when his CD goes off. Carol speeds it up at 7/8 yellow and Medusa deals passive damage and gets attack tiles out. GG (I'm at 3/4/1) fortifies TAHs CD to make sure it goes off. And his black power is only 8/9. TAH is the key though. His CD goes off and floods the field with green too. Most Peggys are teamed with IM40 or Carol. Neither of them do anything with green.

    Vs Peggy/IM40/anyone besides Jean

    GG/MrF/4*Cage
    GG/TAH/4*Cage

Reeds blue is cheap and his stun is crucial along with fortifying tiles to power up Cage. If IM40 gets off recharge, you can use Reed to move tiles around to mitigate the AP gain. Wait to use the blue until either Cage or GG can get off their nukes. These teams get screwed by Jean because her purple power and her blue passive slow you down.

Vs Peggy, I usualy fight fire with fire, and bring Peggy and IM40. Start hitting their Iron Man first, as the first one to get a recharge will win. Prioritize yellow, get 9 (or 10, if their Peggy yellow is at 5) and recharge. Stun Peggy, and suddenly your other abilities are their normal cost. Ultimate Soldier IM40 to take them down, and the rest should be a cakewalk.
Most Peggys are teamed with IM40 or Carol. Neither of them do anything with green.
My third team member of Red Hulk says hello, and thanks for the green. Peggy's passive doesn't matter if you wait until you have 18 green to fire it off. I also occasionally use Iceman, if the opponent doesn't have a green user to drain. You can Stun Peggy with Iceman quicker, which will also help out. If you do use the IM40/Peggy combo, your third team should definitely be a purple/green user.

I'm slowly but surely getting ISO for my 5/5/3 Medusa...she'll be champed in a couple of weeks. My Carol is a 3/3/4, and my Wasp is a 8/1/4 right now...so that team still needs some work.

BTW, I was able to reach 2,000 in simulator during the second week of the season!

I don't think I'll be gunning for the 2000 point reward anymore, if it's always going to be a new 4* cover that i'll see 1/12 of the time I open a legendary token for the next 6 months.

Me at start of season: Yay, Sim! I like Sim.
Me half an hour later: Bored now.
Me one week later: But 4* cover.
Me half an hour later: But hobo.
Me one week later: Meh, it's one less cover to rely on RNGesus for.
    Me: *champs Carol*
    Me: Well, that's fine then.
