How do I progress my roster now?

So when vaulting was implemented I was in the 4* transition.  Bobby, cyke, Jean, HB, starlord, bigpun all 1-2 covers away from fully covered.  Now they are dead.  Only way I can pull covers for them is rewards( I'm not that lucky) or progression rewards.  
  
So now I have to start building all new 4*s to get my transition going again.  I've lost all my drive to play.  Where do I go from here?

Keep on the devs' backs about implementing a real solution to 4* vaulting. If they don't fix it and you don't regain your drive, quit, leave a bad review that explains how the changes have made it an unrewarding game.

A lot of players are finding themselves in that position, unfortunately  4* transitioners like you because of vaulting, and 5* transitioners only with OML are having to choose between rebuilding and quitting.

It depends on how playable your roster is.  You'll find that the drop rate for the newest 12 4*s is reasonably high if you play enough to get a good flow of CP going, so the rebuild may go faster than you think.

It also depends on how much you enjoy the game.  Keep playing if you do.  Don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy, though.  Don't keep playing just because "you invested lots of time in the game and you don't want to lose your progress".  If you're not enjoying playing, your future time may be better invested elsewhere.

I am in the a similar position to yourself, I had 7 4*'s champed before the change with a number on 11/12/13 covers including RHULK, CYC, Jean, 4Thor and Iceman which I was hoping to be able to cover and champ but with the changes I thought that these would sit there for a long time while I waited for them to cycle through the PVE rewards.

But I have found that since the change I have been able to champ RHULK and get the 13th cover for CYC (with another coming in the daily rewards in a few days to be able to champ) get the last cover I need for Iceman (just need a cover to champ) and get the 12th cover for Jean all through bonus heroes ( I opened about 300cp of tokens and got 3 bonus heroes)

Don't give up on them older 4*s, pick one, set as your bonus hero and then once you have them at 13 covers (or 13 + 1 to champ) then move onto the next, you will get there (eventually)

1. Keep asking for the solution for vaulting.
2. Take advantage of bonus hero system. I know that it's sucky RNG but that's all we got left. Pick one 4*, fav him, fav the 3* that gives his champion reward covers.

Really, I don't see any other solution. Unless we get some new super-good characters, the old ones like Cyke, IW, IMHB etc. will remain top tier and no amount of champed Agent Venoms or Spider-Women is going to help me fight them.

You should also focus on some of the better characters that are still in LTs.  Carol, Coulson, and Medusa are all good and worth leveling.  Make one of your close vaulted 4s your bonus hero, and once you get that cover, switch to the next. 

Another option is to save HP for when they are featured in the new Heroes for Hire vault.  The characters you listed are all good, so if you have the HP, it could be worth it to get the last cover from there.

Do NOT buy from Heroes for Hire. It's a ripoff and they should not be rewarded for this kind of behavior.

It's really not that bad if you're getting a cover you need in order to champ someone.

I'm with gravel on this one. Focus on the newer characters. C4rol and Medusa are beasts. If there's a vaulted character you REALLY want, just favorite them. The cover you need will come eventually. Just be careful if they're 5/0/5 or something, because then you could end up wasting a lot of bonus pulls.

Pick the best of those that are 1 away and set them as your only 4* bonus hero, once you pull that final cover champ if you have the ISO, and set your bonus to one of the others.  Be mindful of the newer characters, many of them are top tier and should be champed over the older ones that you have.  Better to grab ~4 champ levels on an unvaulted top tier character than 1 for a vaulted one.

Then once I champ them they are stuck.   Champ levels for vaulted chars are going to be few and far between.

I would have said "just try to see vaulting as not the end of the world and use it to its advantages until they come up with a real fix." But if you're over a month in and still feel stuck, I'm not sure what to say. I'd figure by now you could have had one of the better 12 champed, and that would have at least alleviated some of the hurt of the top vaulted characters being stuck

Strategy-wise, I have to echo everyone else. For the vaulted ones, set them as favorites, one at a time or not, depending on how they are covered. Since they are older they have 3* feeders, so take advantage of that if you can.

Those characters are pretty good even at 11-12 covers, especially cyke and iceman since they are able to take on a more support role if they aren't strong enough yet. I wouldn't call them dead necessarily, their progress slowed for sure.

Champ them mainly for the ability to respec them rather than the champ rewards. Or keep them as favorites after they're champed, it's not great but its better than nothing. After using bonus heroes to get Carol champed I just put my favorite 4* champs as the bonus heroes.

Carol blade medusa and coulson are all great characters. Cloak and dagger looks very good as well. Wasp is actually quite good now but about to leave tokens. You will get these newer ones fully covered long before they leave tokens.
