Champ level select incorrect

I had my 2* Wolverine at level 142 and had 5 covers on the vine (1 green, 2 red, and 2 yellow). I clicked on the yellow cover to add a level and he went up to level 143 and when I got back to my "vine" the green cover was gone and I had 2 red and 2 yellow left. I thought I may have been mistaken, but I made sure this time to add the 144 level as the yellow cover and when I went back, it had applied the red cover.

This needs to be addressed please. Because if I am about to recycle a 2* character for my farm, I strategically use certain colors for champ levels so my leftover ones aren't 5+ of the same color and I can't champ them.
