3* farming, yay or nay?

so, i recently got my first 3*s to 266, and am considering the idea of farming them. the upside is great champ rewards (cp, lt etc). the downsides are
1. super long flip time - a year at least (for me anyway). this roughly translates into and extra 40+ slots if you keep them both around.
2. if you sell the 266 when the farm gets to 166 to avoid slot over-usage, you're a way bigger target in pvp for a good long while.

anyone here started 3* farming? or have a solid opinion, or something i haven't thought of?

I'm getting close to the 266 mark with a couple (in the mid 250's) and my current thinking is to farm the 3*'s that are fed by the 2* farm, but not the others. That only takes 13 more slots and you are guaranteed that those covers will flow pretty freely. The ISO to level them is more of an issue than the HP for roster slots as I wouldn't sell the 266's since they are quite useful to me in PvP. I guess I'll just have to see what my ISO situation is once I get there.

I am planning to keep the level 266 character and start a dupe in a new slot.

I have considered it, but I will not do it for many reasons:
    - the flip time is way too long (around 6 months to fully cover and champ to 166) and creates another ISO mouth to feed from my daily ISO budgeting
    - the net ISO is a significant loss and doesn't justify the gained 4* covers, HP, CP, LT (in my opinion).
    - It takes such a long, long time to get them to 266, that I would rather sit back, relax and enjoy the boosted 3*s (being around level 360) instead of starting over and creating more work. I could also have fun finding new teams with that week's boosted 3*s.
    - It goes a long way being able to call something done.

I am all for a limited 3* farm.

Anybody who is in tokens and is fed by a 2* will be farmed.

    The others, not so much.

Yay. Why not, right? It felt like a waste to spend my hp on a few extra tokens. I'll save for more dupe slots for my farmed 3*s.

thanks for the input... i think i'll start out with the organic, 2*-fed 3*s and see how it goes from there.

Only 3* I'm thinking about farming is in the moment Ragnarok. Maybe another one.

But maybe I use dupes, too.

I have a hard time imagining that the potential for lost rewards from using a lower level 3* wouldn't overtake the champ rewards over the course of an entire year-long champ cycle.

They'd have to sweeten the pot a whole lot before I'd look at farming 3*s as an option. On the other hand, dupes seem like a possibility. It would be a huge iso sink, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to move up into the 4* transition.

6,500 = ISO value of initial 13 covers
120,000 = ISO cost to level to 166
7,500 = ISO cost to champ
49,500 = ISO value of covers used to max-champ
    183,500 ISO

    - 105,000 ISO Selling a maxed 3*
    - 57,500 ISO Rewards to champ them again
    21000 ISO
and farm will mean 21k iso difference.

    Not included:
    3x 4* covers
    2 HT
    5 LT
    1,500HP (incl. 500HP from selling the 3*)
    50 CP

I don't think paying 21k ISO are over 8-12 months would be a huge ISO sink.

But I do not think it is useful to do it with all 3*.

With the vaulting of half of the 3* it looks like only the ones provided by the 2* farm are useful and sure-fire option (with preference on the ones not vaulted in that group but I don't know the exact breakout).

Three-stars currently in tokens and fed by a two-star farm:
    Black Widow
    Iron Man
    Captain America
    Wolverine (Patch)
Spider-man doesn't really Count due to the scarceness of Bag-man covers. Also, Iron Man may drop from this list when they make the next champion rewards revision as he currently is the reward for 2* Hawkeye.

That makes the farm even less exciting if the list is this short. BW give Nick Fury as a 4*, IM gives Hulkbuster (but he is likely candidate to rotate out unless the release date has nothing to do it... on the other hand his real release date is the rewark day), Cap giving Winter Soldrier and Patch giving X-Force. So other than Hawkeye-Iron Man-Hulkbuster trio non of the 2-3-4 lines is exciting in terms of covers.

If Iron Man goes out we should have Hawkeye - Hawkguy - Kate Bishop, but she's no Hulkbuster.

That is if they change the champions character in rewards. He might rotate out of tokens but still be given by 2* hawkeye.

I don't Think Iron Man will rotate out of tokens, they seem to have a mix of big name characters and powerful characters in there and Iron Man sort of fits both categories. They'll probably remove one of the lesser known characters to make room for Hawkeye, my Money is on Squirrel Girl.
This is of course all speculation though.
