Receiving Bonus Heros for non-favorited characters

Twice now I've gotten 3* Falcon covers as bonus heroes, despite not having Falcon selected as one of my favorite characters. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

    if you have no 3 star selected and get a bonus 3, the system picks one for you
