Question about spending HP

So this is both a "specific-to-me" and a "in general" question so bear with me for a minute.

General question:
When in the 2*->3* transition with a decent amount of roster space (28 or so seems good, I have 29), you should be consistently placing in the 50 or 100 HP rewards brackets, on top of alliance rewards, so HP accrual isn't a huge issue. So, at what point do you simply save all HP, maybe for a new alliance spot (if you're not maxed yet) or for an important cover or two? Do you need to have one or two 3* max covered already? Note this question is for F2P since if you're paying you probably have a good idea what you want to buy.

Specific question:
As said before I've got 29 filled roster slots. I also have 900 HP so it's not like another one is a big stretch or anything. My relevant roster for this question is the following:

2*
85 MN Thor 3/5/5
85 A Wolvie 5/5/3
85 OBW 5/5/3
80 C Storm 5/3/5
50 Cap 5/3/5
~30 Daken 5/3
~30 Ares (forget specs, like 4/2/3 or something)
15 Moonstone 3/3/4 (not sure on these specs either, but who cares)
6 Hawkeye (also something like 3/3/4)

3*
80 LazyThor 1/4/4 (92 soft cap)
77 Shieldbro 3/5/5 (just now max-covered, first 3* yay!)
77 Punisher 4/2/3 (89 soft cap)

I have all the other 3* except for GSBW, and IM40, but pretty lowly covered (I think 3/2/2 Hulk and 3/1/1 Psylocke are next highest) and very lowly leveled as well.

My question boils down to - I got a green GSBW in a standard token (sick luck, I know), so is it worth spending the 400 HP for a spot for her, when it seems unlikely I'm going to be using her at all or certainly not any time soon? The collector in me wants to open the slot, but the practical, game min-maxer in me just wants to sell and save the HP for something better down the line. The other option is to jettison one of the 2* I won't use. 2* Cap is probably literally the most useless since my Shieldbro is already better, but Hawkeye and Moonstone are pretty useless characters (except to form the tank team).

Just not sure what to do. What do you guys think? and if you have thoughts on the "general" question above I think it's worth discussing for the benefit of others too.

I'd probably ditch 2* Hawkeye before 2* Cap, and honestly I'd part with either one of them in place of GSBW. Yeah, you're not going to use her for a while but I think she has more long-term value. My only hesitation is that both Cap and Hawkeye are often buffed in events, but even when they're buffed I never use them and get along just fine.

The collector in me would want to hang on to all of them, though. If collecting is important to you (completely valid - it is to me) maybe just bite the bullet and buy roster slots.

I would jettison Moonstone. Moonstone, as far as I know, is buffed/useful in exactly one event - the Dark Avengers PvP. 2* Cap, on the other hand, is very frequently buffed in PvE events, and if you get him to 3/5/5 he actually becomes quite good at controlling enemy countdown tiles.

*Edit: Although, really, I'd probably just spend five dollars to open up some roster slots. It's a fun game, why not support the devs?

Maybe "jettison" was really a euphemism? In that case I'd jettison her too

I mean the whole point of the game to me is to build up all your characters to max cover and max levels so that you get to play with all different combinations of characters. If you're doing that, then you should probably just invest the HP into roster slots, since it'll be hard for you to get the GSBW cover in the future.

I sold 2 GSBW covers when I first started... I regret it to this day, don't follow in my footsteps.

I think just purchase some HP if you must and ditch some 1*s (I only keep 3)... I have every single 3* and 4* and relevant 2*s at 28 slots so you can do it too.

The 2*s you have that I ditched are:
1) C.Storm (who works better with MN.Mag, but hey you've leveled her to L80);
2) Moonstone (I sold her after I realised how overpriced her skills were); and
3) M.Hawkeye (until he gets reworked he's not worth a slot).

It's only going to get more expensive from here on out, so gotta keep your 1* and 2* roster to a bare minimum as you collect 3*s.

Furthermore, with Falcon and Gold Daken coming out in the foreseeable future, that's another 800 HP in expenses.
