How to leave MMR Hell in pvp?

All this MMR suff is blurry to me, but from what I can gather, I suppose that what happens to me is the thig called "MMR hell".

Due to a big "too many wipe in heroic pvp" frustration, I a doing some pvp. Not a lot, but much more that before: I reached 800 or 900 points on last Human Torch pvp event with a level 85 team: 1/1/1 Human Torch with 3/5/5 OBW and Thor (went down fairly quickly after that, because I didn't bought shields).

When I saw this new pvp event rewarding Hulk covers, I quickly goes to 700 points, then shielded for 2 days, hoping to break this shield if am not going to stay in top 10.

The problem is that is I want to attack a team to gain points, the game only gives me the same 10/15 player with 120+ Spidey, Mag, Punished, Lazy Thor and such. With my level 28 Cap and 85 OBW and Thor/Wolverine, it seems hard.
I never faced such teams when I won these 700 points, I've always been matched with teams of my level.

I think it is what is calle "MMR hell". I am right?
The main question is: how can I leave this?
Is it too late for this event? And for the next one?

Note that I tried to "tank" LR this morning for the first time. My easy team was attacked about 10 times in LR, with no visible effect on the Hulk event opponents.

  • When you get to a certain point in the tournament (usually somewhere between 600-800 points) you're only going to see other teams within a certain point range, regardless of MMR, and that's mainly going to be advanced teams. You can manipulate that a little by tanking elsewhere, but the best case scenario is having a handful of lower leveled teams mixed in with the three-digit ones.
  • When you get to MMR hell, you face those teams all the time (aside from seed teams). You can also tank in the prologue SHIELD event. Just retreat a bunch of times and/or wipe with extra characters you aren't using. It'll help keep your matches more even with the team you can actually field.

Maybe it was not that MMR Hell: without doing anything, I entered a LR, and never faced a team with a character above level 60... Really odd, since I usually face characters of my level, or above in LR.
Now that the hulk event started, it's the same thing: never found an opponent with a level 85 or more.
Maybe I was just put in MMR Heaven instead icon_e_smile.gif

A tip for the future: It's really not worth it to shield with 2 days left, unless you just can't play on the last day at all. Just get as high as you can early and then wait until something like less than 8 or 3 hours before the tournament ends. Then push as high as you can, recouping any losses you got from retaliations since you first played, making use of retaliations yourself and then shield until the tournament ends and resist the temptation to break shields if you drop in rank. You can place Top25 easily that way just with 1 shield per tournament, and you'll earn the HP you spent on the shield back in rewards (at least if you are in an alliance, not sure if there is enough HP if you are solo). If you can wait long enough so that a 3 hour shield is enough, you'll even earn HP. If you got a good bracket, Top10 is also comfortably doable that way, but it's a bit of a gamble always.

Thanks for the tip. The few times I shielded I did something as you say. This time, I could not play at the end of the event, and wanted these two Hulk cover (my alliance usually ends with 50HP, but never a cover, so I can't count on this cover). I thought that 770 HP will be enough to be in top 10, as it is most of the time.
It was a really bad strategy this time: 600 HP spent for the two days shield, I was #4 2 hours before the event end. Then came the final push. I crossed my fingers, looked at the score 15 minutes before the end: #16, with #10 at more nearly 900 points...
I agree that 600 for only one hulk cover is expensive.

I will follow your advice for the Human Torch covers, and won't be so greedy. With my roster, one 3* cover at a time will good enough.

I have the same roster as you mainly, with the exception that I have leveled up my ares and have a few 3*s moderately covered, but none really usable. You can definitely get top 10 every tournet with your roster. Just play moderately until the last day. I normally push 100-300 in first day, then work of higher retaliations up to 500ish the next day. On the last day, I do a push for at least 800, but 900 if I can make it. Even if you have to fight higher teams, make sure they have about 30-40 points, and you will not be worth the retailiation to them. AKA Play smarter, not longer, and you can get top 10 easy with your roster. I have even got a few top 1 finishs the last few weeks doing this. top 1 is very bracket dependant though.
  • cap pvp for hulk covers was just super competitive too. i joined a late bracket and #10 there was over 800 points, where normally when i join late, it'd be 550-650.
