Reliance on Boosts

I'm kinda wondering where everyone stands on boost usage. Is it something you use all the time? Something you use rarely?

  • I use them pretty rarely, mainly in two situations:
    1) tough, critical battle late in an event (usually PVE nodes when I'm on the bubble on an award)
    2) late in a PVP when a battle is too important to lose - more as security against a bad board than anything else, and the speed advantage helps too

The rest of the time, I tend to forget they exist, and that helps me build them up.
  • I'm reluctant to say this, but imo boosts are generally a trap. Ever since level scaling mechanics were revealed, a vicious cycle was created. Use boosts because enemies are too hard; enemies are too hard because you used boosts.
  • I used to use boosts like crack, but now I only use them when I feel it must be done. I wasted so much ISO on those things...
  • I rarely used boosts before, but now I never use them in case they're retired. I've got a full stash of all the boosts including retired boosts, and it's like having a beautiful trophy case.

I've got brain problems, I know

I used to hoard them. Then I found out that they are capped at 30, so I started using them.
  • I use AP boosts when going from 1000 --> 1100 in PVP, that's about it.

I use them for Hard and Deadly nodes that I don't think I can take otherwise.

I tend to forget them until I get spanked by a really hard PvE fight then find out I'm sitting on 30 Critical boosts icon_e_smile.gif
  • i use the +1/+1 ap boosts a lot. that's it really, but it speeds up fights and greatly reduces incoming damage (less enemy powers go off).
  • Mostly just tough Heroic modes.

Depends on what I'm gunning for. I'll use boosts if it feels like I'm gonna run out of health packs before the end of the tournament. Running out of health packs is pretty much a hard wall (I ain't gonna pay 200hp to revive my team).
  • I use them for tough PVE nodes as well as quick PVP wins right before I'm going to shield.
  • Strictly PVE for me. PVP no boost.

Here is when I use them

    1. Always use them if they are at 30. I see no reason to gain ones that you can't use. Its uncommon for me to have any boost at more than 27

    2. Very tough PvE match. Venom has made me bust some out for damage. I tend to think the damage ones are helpful when you cant kill goons quickly enough.

    3. Must win or high point(but really tough) pve battles. I tend to use AP boosts for those.
  • Nice to see votes still rolling in. It also seems like boosts are (generally) being used just for the slight edge in those tough battles.

I am kinda curious if the results so far are reflective, albeit on a much smaller sample, of D3's server side metrics.

I think I haven't used them more than 10 times since they were revamped. I just don't like spending things that are in finite supply unless absolutely necessary, and they rarely are. PvP you can win anything without them anyway and PvE, well I usually just don't do nodes that are impossible. If you use boosts to win missions that you otherwise couldn't, it'll just push the scaling so that more of your missions are impossible without them.

Everything in this game is geared toward punishing you for playing well, so it's best just not to. Sad but true.

Same here, dont see the point in using them on PVP as tanking stops you from seeing scary folk until high scores and then theres not a lot of point because you just press skip - 10 iso is cheaper than 100/200 for boosts.
When I started out, I used them like a crack addict but stopped when the costs went up and cant believe how much more ISO I see.
