Could draft work?

Since we're (almost) all complaining about paying crystals to enter the Trial events, I started thinking about what I WOULD pay for. Now I understand that when you pay to play something, a certain amount of what you pay is for the entertainment you get out of it. In theory, if I joined Trials, a percentage of the 60 crystals is for the enjoyment of playing a new format (never mind that the challenges are anxiety-inducing). But the rewards plus the enjoyment, even in a perfect run, still don't equal 60 crystals for me. So what would?

Traditionally, I significantly prefer draft-style play to constructed. Paper magic, I purely draft. Solforge, I only ever drafted. Hearthstone, draft. Eternal, draft. Shadowverse, draft. So I would probably pay decent crystals to draft. But can draft work in MTGPQ?

I think it could, but only if the system were reworked. Instead of individual picks counting as 4 in your deck (as it currently works when building a deck), what if you had to make a deck of 40 individual cards? You could either do this individually (40 unique picks) or in a 2x2 system (you're shown multiple pairs of cards at once, and you have to pick the pair that's then added to your deck). Obviously, your two colors picked would limit the color of cards you see for the remainder of the picks (although it'd be fun to be able to draft whatever you want and then get to play different cards together you never would normally). I figure at the end of the draft, you select a planeswalker to use with colors corresponding to what you chose in the draft. But here again, it would be fun if you could choose any walker, so that you could be playing White/Green with Ob Nixilis or something crazy like that. What if you have only 3 randomly chosen walker to choose from and just had to do your best?

If I were able to play this format on a seven-charge node, I would think that's worth about 20-30 crystals of fun. If you throw in 10-20 crystals, a random rare (SOI please?), and 5-10 jewels as progression prizes, then I'm certainly willing to spend 60 crystals each time I draft.

Thoughts on this? What other formats would we be willing to spend crystals on?

40 card decks will never happen...your literally asking for an entirely new game. Though I wouldn't disagree on a draft style game mode. Not sure how you would draft...pretty restricted to what color combos are available. Some of us have all the pw others not so much. Great idea but I don't think it flys too far when you think of the game and what the limitations are. Maybe if there are only certain color combos per draft.

Let's let them save this dying game first!

Not certain it's a totally new game, though. Aren't the decks we're building at the moment 40-card decks? Maybe I totally went wrong somewhere... I thought we were working with 40-card decks (4 each of the 10 we have in the deck) and the deck reshuffles itself when we hit the end of 40 cards. Guess that was just fanciful thinking, I've been working under the premise this whole time that there are only 4x Barals, Olivias, Ulrichs, and Pigs in each deck.

I don't think which PW you own matters though, all of them would be available in the format to play (may even help sales, because we would get to play with ones we don't own. Same for cards. You wouldn't Lee either after the draft).

    Sealed would work
Pay your entrance fee, then select your PW, then you get a premium pack (5 pack of 5 cards with bonus rare) that only has cards of the PW colors (these already exist when you buy PWs or in special offers) they might have to throw in some bonus colorless cards to for variety. Cost would be whatever a colored premium pack costs. If you somehow cant make a deck of 10 cards out of the 26 pulled due to PW restrictions, then the game will automatically fill what you dont have out of commons you already own within a predetermined preselected pool.

@dumas you literally made a statement of a 40 card deck(individual slots for 40)...that wouldn't work...they would have to reconfigure the whole game to withstand that. Also you don't have a 40 card deck which cycles in. You can infact draw 5 of the same cards before you draw 4 of every other card.

Second save the dying game first, but yes draft can happen.

It's so simple too, 5 cards pack, 3 packs, draft 15 cards, choose 10 for a deck. Make it phantom if you must.

But coding wise, this is a big project more than they can chew considering the **** bugs we have alerted them about and still have.
