Starting the the​ 3*-4* transition

For reference, my roster is here. It's mostly up-to-date, with no major changes to anything important. I primarily play PvE.

I've cashed in my CPs and LTs over the past couple ​of weeks, and have ended up with some pretty well covered 4*s, most notably a 4/4/4 Peggy, whose 13th cover I should earn in the next PvE.

I probably won't champ her until I can take someone else up with her, but if I pull a 14th cover I won't be wasting it.

So, my first question is: is she viable as a solo 4* champ? I'd rather have someone tanking for her, to keep her yellow viable, but if I can't, can she cope?

Second question: is it worth taking Cage up with her? There's some colour overlap, but his protect tiles could be useful. He's currently my 4* favourite because I have 2 extra blacks in my queue.

Thirdly: is Gwenpool worth champing? I kind of love playing with her, and her colours complement Peg's, but...

Any other advice gratefully received.

Peggy is one of the best 4* in the game, so I think she would be a good 4* to establish your beachhead (WWII pun intended). Ideally someone like Red Hulk, Ice Man or Teen Jean might be better due their AOE abilities, but Peggy’s yellow at 5 should help a lot as you bring up others. That blue is great for crowd control too.

Your next one should be an AOE character, just to give you that option and to take out invisible enemies, but those are going to be slimmer picking these days based on the current pool (Spider-Woman and Blade are it I think right now). So yes, 4* Cage is probably your next best bet for the defense and his yellow is quite powerful when it gets going. I’ve champed him a bit ago and he works great with a lot of teams. I’ve really been happy with him so far.

Someone else to think about is that 3/3/3 Wasp of yours. Her rework has been great, and her yellow can quickly buff and flip those protect tiles from Cage to massive strike damage (or back again to protect tiles). Paired with Wasp Cage would basically be sitting there to put out those specials tiles and occasionally use his red (which is stronger than Peggy’s normally, even if there is an enemy special tile on the board), but he does that very well.

But still try to get a AOE character from the older 4*’s when they come up in event rewards or vaults. You’ve got both Thanos and Thor as 3* champs, so Red Hulk is probably your best bet. Favorite them as bonus heroes to increase your chances.

Gwenpool is okay, that purple is very useful if you don’t mind having a spreadsheet by you everytime you use her. Her green does do a lot of damage, but I wouldn’t build a team on her.

By a kind of cool coincidence, I pulled a Red Hulk cover from the R&G vault yesterday. Red, unfortunately, but it puts him one cover closer to 13. I've also picked up 2 more Spiderwoman covers and one for Blade, so, yes, possibilities.

I think I may try out that Cage/Wasp combo in Sim. That sounds like fun.

Shh! They'll hear you. That said, even if they do nerf Peggy (please, no), I'm pretty happy with my backups. It shouldn't take me too long to get Cage, Medusa, Carol and a couple of others up to a decent level.

I'm planning to park people at level 180 as that becomes possible, but keeping 300k ISO on hand for champing as needed. My highest 3*s are in the mid-190s, so I don't want to push the 4s too high until I'm ready to champ them.

just to give you another option:
save ~750k iso and 120cp, champ red hulk and Peggy.

I did the same with rulk and cyclops as my first 4*s.

That calculation seems about right, I think. I usually earn about 38k per day, more during lightning round days, less if there's a 2-day sub. I primarily play PvE though, as you know, so I don't really know how the numbers stack for primarily PvP players.

Yes, I did champ Power Man (yesterday, I champed Peggy at the weekend). Wow. I definitely had that feeling. He tore right through Kingpin and all his goons like they were wet paper. It was. So. Much. Fun.

Peggy has been a constant delight too, but since she's not currently boosted, it's less jaw-dropping than Cage.
