Time to Champion my 2 Star Characters?

Hello everyone (again)!
So I need some help.
I've been playing this game on and off since pre-R47 and shortly after Vaulting was first introduced, I went on hiatus. At the time of my hiatus, I had finished covering my (useful) 2 star characters save for Captain Marvel who was new and was starting to make my transition into 3 stars.
I've missed the game (and this community, actually) which is why I came back, but with so many changes having happened, I feel rather lost and because my current roster is very reflective of the 'old times', I'm not sure how to go about making some plans for the future of my gameplay.
Three star characters were typically won in either PvP or PvE and there were fewer tokens (at least it feels that way?) and none of this Elite token or SHIELD level or Vaulting business. If you placed well you could get multiple covers. If you managed to scrape by you would get a single cover. If you got the 2-X star tokens, they were either Heroics or Event-specific.
This was often my situation and this is how I collected a bunch of single cover 3 stars and being the collector that I am, I kept all of them and as such, I have a fairly deep roster... that's in-progress all over the place...
Which includes several characters who have been unfortunately stuck in the Vault and that is part of the reason for the mess that is my roster which you can see here:
https://mpq.gamependium.com/rosters/SunCrusher/
My 2 stars are all as covered as I want them to be... for now... and because of how PvE was structured in the past, I kept them soft-capped.
I'm thinking it's time to Champion them, but I'm not too sure because my 3 stars are mostly pretty undercovered with several that are Vaulted and some that are very difficult to use and I don't want to shoot myself in the foot any more than I already have.
I have extra 2 star covers sitting around for Mags, Cap, Hawkeye, Wolverine, Daken, and Torch in the Rewards Queue.
I'm willing to buy HP as always if needed to include new characters and I have Agent Coulson , Peggy Carter , Thanos , and Wasp in my Rewards Queue, too.
I'm sitting on approximately 470K ISO and have been clicking on every Shield Intercept to come my way.
Any suggestions?

Since you had a long break you are pretty much like a new players. So tips are simple:
1. Hoard CP and legendary tokens. You don't need 4 or 5 yet. There will be another point on this lower to contradict a bit but bear with me.
2. Don't waste hero points on anything but slots (unless you are still in PvP heaven with noobs and you can get decent placement rewards - then shield a bit but don't spend a lot... if you are not getting good placement - like top 25, don't bother shilding). No tokens, not health packs, no shields.
3. You only need one 1* hero to clear the daily DDQ. Most rely on Juggernaut but Ironman and Spiderman can both do it reliably and quickly. Black widow with 5 in blue is a great team up but you should cut her if the hero points are an issue.
4. You are starting a transition to 3* land. So you need to roster all the 2* and all the 3* (a great way to earn covers is doing the DDQ every day and you need roster for that). If you don't pull from LT and CP 4* will not be an issue.
5. I would champion the 2* as you are getting a lot of tokens and they mainly rain 2* so these are levels and they can give nice rewards (mainly HP for you). You will face another issue in couple of weeks/months when they reach maximum level. Farming 2* is a way to go but for more developed rosters.
6. With 2* championed you might see a bit of increase in difficulty of PvE (and PvP you can't do a lot anyway - maybe couple of hundred points now and then) but you should get the feeling that your roster is progressing.
7. When you have multiple covers - start working on the best 3*. Rince and repeat as this game is a long journey.
8. Best source of covers and resources is PvE and DDQ. Do what you can there and you will reap benefits.
9. Back to point 1 - there will be rotation of 4*. You are no-near to the place where you can use them but current pool has some good ones - like Carol, Medusa, Cage. Maybe it's worth to try to cover them with CP while you can. But the risk is that you pull 5* and your scaling will take it into account.0 -
Yes, champ your 2-stars. All of them. 2-star covers are not at all rare and you can have them all max-champed in a very short time if you have the iso. They'll be your work horses while you build your 3-stars up.
If you feel you need to soft cap your 3-stars because of scaling go ahead, but you'll eventually start running into wasted covers that could otherwise be used for champ rewards. (I didn't start soft-capping until I started covering 4-stars and never really had a problem with scaling.)0
