Community Brainstorm: Inbox Notifications

Hi Everyone,

Several players have brought to my attention the desire for the in-game Inbox to be used more frequently as an avenue of communication. Based on this request, I've created this thread so everyone can discuss the idea! (or any other ideas you might have)

Keep in mind, I can't guarantee that these ideas will be implemented, but the more support an idea gets, the stronger case I'll have when relaying it to the developers.

I'll start the thread off with one from Mainloop25:

Every pertinent update to an ongoing event, for example. I don't recall if an inbox notification was sent out to everyone to let them know that the latest RatC event was going to be terminated before 0% but it would be nice for everyone who doesn't frequent the forum to know.
Pros
- Players more informed, due to increased communication between developers and community

Neutral
- Less dependence on forum for information (Although I personally don't like that, but I'm biased icon_razz.gif )

Cons
- Possible translation requirements, and the details revolving around that process

I didn't think of translation requirements but that's a good point.

Aa far as depending on the forum goes, I think there are a lot of people on Facebook or Reddit who go there first for discussion about the game, and so the forum is an afterthought to them.

The con is an interesting one I hadn't considered but I wonder if an announcement in English wouldn't cover a large amount of the player base.

If a multiple language requirement must be met then I'd note it doesn't seem to carry forward into the developer notes about changes to the game (that I have seen though I stop when I find the English versions) so how do non English speakers currently learn things - are these notes linked differently depending on their version of the game? If so that's pretty neat.

Either way, I wouldn't avoid trying out a solution that may be 70% effective because it isn't 100% effective. There are no takeaways here only upside to giving it a shot.

I long since stopped underestimating the language skills of non native English speakers, they more often than not speak a better version of the language than native speakers icon_e_smile.gif

With the event that ended early, while the boss still had a large chunk of health, you knew in advance that the event was going to end early, and there was no chance at all the boss would hit zero. When you knew that, you should have displayed a countdown to the end of the event timer in place of the x% that was there. And used an inbox notification. That was big, and nearly cost my coalition (we scraped into 10th, would have been higher if everyone used their nodes).

Saw elsewhere it would be nice to see the objectives for new events.

Actually the same could go for all events.

Since this thread is hidden on second page, but could've been useful the last days:

Changes in events should be announced via in-game message, maybe with a link to a forum thread included, like
    -last RATC events -
"will end at 30% because of bugged first node"
"we'll reroll barals useless expertise because.. Bugged last event, so everyone can have the chance of getting it "
"we've decided to change the schedule because.. Delayed update.. Start a day early.. Etc"
-Current event "because of broken Baral, this week with sorin and salsa, no card at reward because it's broken right now. next week with potatoes and tezzeret as planeswalkers. Also the not broken rikshas expertise will be the reward then"

Inbox announcements are already capable of linking to other places, like the forums or the D3 blog. Are these sites already translated into other languages? If so, just post the inbox announcement in English and let it link them to one of those places. If not, what difference does it make if the announcement is in English only when the other sources of the same information are also in English only? Can't benefit the English speakers because that would be unfair advantage over the non-English speakers?

There should be another banner in the home page with "community links" or something along those lines, every time a new set comes out it goes there, server maintenance, a forum link, perhaps a link to a new players guide and stuff like that. Each time something new gets added to it then a little notification appears near it, similar to the free booster notification. can't be too hard right?

Also while we're at it can we get that notification for daily rewards?

OK there was too many notifications post-update today, any chance some can be scrapped for the future? Like training grounds or OGW notifications? They're pretty useless.

.. The matter with the coalition rewards.
Question : does it affect the majority of players?
    Answer : hell, yes
