Should nerf's reset mastery?

My thinking is nerfing a card should reset its mastery to zero as you might not want to play that card anymore and it's a waste of mastery points. Discuss.

This only matters if you are purposefully trying to stay in a lower bracket to game the system and avoid harder competition. Which is fine I suppose. I'd rather they just change the system so it's not disadvantageous to master cards.0

While you're exploiting, why not play level 1 planeswalkers in PvP events?0

I think the best solution would be a 90% reduction in chance that you pull a card you mastered. So everyone has a VERY big incentive to master their cards.0

Thanks for throwing out some judgment buddy. I'm not exploiting. I'm in gold and a solid 100-150 points from platinum in every level as I havnt been playing as long as many of you and don't QB very much.
The jump from bronze to silver and silver to gold for players with smaller collections can be BRUTAL. Mastering happens quicker as we're all forced to play new cards to hit secondary objectives. Seems to be an inherent unfairness to use up mastery points on a card you won't play anymore because the card itself was changed.0 -

It is not an "inherent unfairness", it's just part of the game. Cards are not buffed or nerfed very often even if they need to be. Your argument would have to work both ways. If cards were to be reset because they were changed then when one is buffed It would reset as well and you would start over from zero.
I'm in gold as well and I've been playing nearly since the beginning. I'm on the fence about whether or not to advance to platinum but I could and in doing so I would have to put cards in my decks that I would never use again just so I could master them.
Best advise I can give you is to just suck it up and master the card.
Or not.0 -

Yeah, but aren't you in the #4 coalition? You should come join us in Platinum Tier!
TBH I'm not too keen on the way that players at the top of the game can stay in Gold or Silver or Bronze tier and earn points for their coalitions more easily. That's another thing I'd like to see fixed.0 -
I think being in a lower tier does help for coalition event NOP and individual events. A bronze or silver player would not have the card collection to be effective in Avacyn or RAC type events though.0
-
Isn't the idea of top 10 coalition players all being in Platinum a bit elitist? The #4 coalition in the universe does not prescribe to this line of thought. We accept anyone who can hold their own in both PVE and PVP events.0

Shteeve, why are you so cynical? Can't you just give it a rest, just for one day?

Once you master a card, I don't see why its mastery should be reset. I've mastered some cards that I no longer use, like, ever. Some of them I only used in a few events. I wouldn't want my mastery for them to be reset. If my favorite event evah forces me to use all those vehicles and I end up mastering them, should I ask to have the mastery reset after events change?
From a more practical point of view, designing a feature that'd allow the devs to globally reset mastery for a single card would most likely require some manpower and development time. We have much more pressing issues that need attention at the moment.
However, if a card is nerfed and you feel that mastering it somehow put you at a disadvantage, you can always open a ticket with CS and argue your point. They might have a way of resetting your mastery, I don't know.
On an unrelated note, there's nothing wrong with mastering cards at your own pace and definitely nothing wrong with inviting players from lower tiers to top 10 coalitions. If a team had a policy of accepting only Bronze players for pvp and kicking them once they advance tiers, this could be called an exploit, but I'm not aware of such practices. If you feel that this aspect of the game could be tweaked (I agree that Mastery is a terrible system), please open a different thread or dm the devs. However, if you choose to do so, please make sure that you're kind and respectful to your fellow players. Accusing others of exploiting the system, especially if they simply play the game as it was designed, is a great way to antagonize them and make things go downhill really fast. Please avoid doing that.
To everyone posting in this thread, do not turn it personal, please stay on-topic and if you post, make sure that your post is an answer to OP's original question - whether mastery should be reset if changes are made to a card. Whatever your opinion, keep the discussion civil and friendly, or I'll lock the thread and hand out a few warnings. Thank you!0 -
Perhaps it's time to add a new higher mastery tier? Platinum these days is not any elite at all, it's overcrowded.0
