So does this mean the end of essential characters?

So, now that BH's have essentially walled off 3/4s's of the 4's and 1/2 of the 3's, does this mean the end of essential characters? You can't expect a new player to have a character you have vaulted from them. Not sure if others have mentioned this in the many threads that have popped up.

Essentials will still be available in the previous PvEs like they always have been. They will also be available in vaults as well. Nothing will change regarding this as a result of Bonus Heroes.0

sounds like they will not change that. the new system allows you to target 4*s you don't even have yet, so that would be a way to get that cover. In Latest or classic tokens, you used to have around a 2% chance at a specific character. Now, if you target 1, it's 5%. You could favorite 2 and still have better odds to get them then you did before.0

5% of 85%.
Slightly increasing the height of the wall for Essentials points between the Haves and Have Nots.... not so cool.0 -

Well it was 1.88% of 85% before. Not sure what your point is. If you want, the first thing you can do is pick one cover of all the 4*s you don't have. Plus, for many it's most likely that many of the ones you don't have are new, which means you'll easily get them.0 -
Nope it will just be much harder for new players to get them. Great plan.0

That was already true, don't be ridiculous. Now at least you'll have a better chance of getting a few covers for the 4*s you can get. Without having to sell 60 in between.0 -

If you have two favorites, the odds will be about the same (actually a tiny bit better under the new system).
For more than two, the odds will be worse, and the more favorites you pick, the greater the disparity.
It seems to me that the odds of getting a specific 4* essential for a PvE in the time between when you found out which one you needed and time of the event were pretty slim anyway (unless there is a set rotation schedule for PvE essentials).
DDQ is a different story since the schedule is known far in advance.
Of course, if you have all the 4*s rostered, it's not a major issue, since you can usually do PvE and Big Burrito with even a one-cover 4*.
I haven't done the math to see if getting one cover of each 4* would be faster under the new system (by either favoriting one at a time or by favoriting all but the 12 in the stores and dropping them off as you get them) or the old system.0 -
The fact is if there is an essential you don't have in PVE you'll get a cover from Progression (you may have to make up some points to get max progression)0

Good point. I usually get top 50 on PvE subs and main whether I have the 4* or not - though you wouldn't get top 10 and I don't know if you'd get top 20.0 -

Well, previously you'd need (for 45 characters) 53 legendary tokens to get 1 cover for everyone (on average). Of course no one ever got all 45 characters one at a time before getting duplicates. A geometric calculation of that gives us an average of ~233 tokens before you have one cover for all 45 4*s.
New system, you can change your favourite every time you get one cover. You get one bonus 4* cover every 23.5 legendary token draws, so to cover the 33 characters that aren't already in the token list, you'd need 776 legendary token draws. You only need about 44 draws (again, on average) to get at least one of each of the 12 that are actually in the token list itself (less, although not by much, if one of them is your 4* fav).0
