Spending CP on 4* covers when a spare cover is not dying on the vine....

I got 3 covers from top 10 the PVE event and managed to get a Blue out of the vault... and after a couple of games it was clear that he would be fun to use, but needed a bit of a boost... so I have bought some covers so that I have 3 covers in Yellow and Purple after hitting progression in the Venom Heroic, as that means I can swap any basic tile and get the full spectrum of countdowns...

Mainly because I have no interest in 5* and I had a load of CP saved up... with no ISO saved in order to champ the 10 4* I have with Maximum covers.... I'm even saving LTs until I have enough ISO to champ anyone I get the 14th cover for....

and this just seemed like a decent use of CP... I am enjoying using the new character and CP is only there to allow me to get more enjoyment out of the game... so 360 CP for covers of a new character may not be the most sensible from a roster development perspective but it is a laugh

Personally I think Coulson is in the "pretty good" category - not gamebreaking but better than he initially looks on paper. So I wouldn't CP-buy his covers myself, but I can see where he'd be fun to get usable right away.

Here's a good cardinal rule....don't buy covers for Venom (Lethal Protector). Or Elektra. Unless you REALLY, REALLY want to. But maybe ask someone first.

Otherwise, just have fun!

Funny, I remember people complaining about x-23 when she came out, saying that her trap tiles and the restriction on her healing would make her worthless, and look how people value her now.

Eh. The only 'rule' with CP as far as I'm concerned is "don't spend them on Legendary tokens until you have some 3* champions."

Otherwise, as others have said, go for what brings you enjoyment.

Now, I know for me, I won't generally spend CP on a cover for a 4* character unless that 120 CP will enable me to rescue a wilting cover. That's partly because I struggle with the discipline to "hoard" even that much CP.

But partly because there's a part of me that goes 'what no that's at least six Classic Legendaries what if you pulled the cover you need from six pulls you'd have been wasting five other potential covers.'

I had zero qualms about spending the CP to finish off 3* Strange, though, and I'm debating doing the same with 3* Thanos. It helps that I can justify that as 'spending 20 CP to get a Latest Legendary from the champion reward,' though.

But that's me. What works for me isn't necessarily what works for everybody (anybody) else.

Coulson's one of the few characters that I really don't feel comfortable judging before I get to try him with a variety of teams. All signs point to him being useful but I have no clue how good he'll end up being.

Got to remember this is a GAME... so play how you feel happy.

Personally, I've tried out Coulson and LOVE him. Paired with Star Lord and 4* Captain Marvel he is a riot.

My wife came into my office because I was giggling to myself - grinding the "simple" nodes with that team.

That's a funny way to spell Red Hulk. Or Cyclops. People were unimpressed with them on release, but once people actually started playing with them it became apparent just how powerful they were. X-23 isn't Close to that Power level, unfortunately. (and I don't really see people valuing her highly, though no one seems to Think she is worthless)

Errr .... other than a true healer (always a plus), how do they value her?

She's pretty good in PvE. And she makes for an annoyance in PvP.
She's not top tier at all, there are usually better ways to use green and the AI doesn't use her properly. What else doesn't help is she's almost always boosted alongside Red Hulk...and who're you gonna pick out of the two?

If you can pair her with someone who reliably makes lots of strike tiles (Blade, perhaps? Weirdly there aren't that many strike tile makers in 4* land) then her trap becomes useful again.
I tend to just spec her trap ability at 3 though. She's more annoying when boosted in PvP healing 3000 HP per match.

Granted, she may not be top-tier, but, I do remember comments to the effect of "O-NOEZ! Another worthless trap tiler. Tiny kitty Elektra v2.0! RAWR!"

My point is only that judging a character before having a good opportunity to futz around with builds/teams is a slippery slope.

PS- I actually don't think Elektra is horrible. She was one of my first champed 4*, and flipping all those strikes can be ridiculously fun.

I spent 20 CP on a Psylocke cover way back because I had 4 covers for her maxed powers dying on the vine and the iso to champ her
have only spent CP on Tokens since
(that was 33 3 star champions ago folks so don't judge too harshly)

If you don't want 5*'s then yes 100%. Carol and Medusa are the only characters I bought a 40 pack for because they looked insanely fun. And they are! Carol is the most fun I've had in a long time and she loves her some Coulson. If I had some more HP saved, I would instantly buy a 40 pack or two for Coulson.

Pay AP -> do damage is tried and true, but boring
Fortified countdowns are fun
Instantly popping countdowns are even more fun
Instantly popping countdowns and getting AP back and do some damage that dips with strike tiles? Omg **** me that sounds like a great time.

Also Coulson doesn't need levels to do Coulson things. He gets full passive effects at 4 covers that isn't tied to character levels.

If you are into team building rather than bulldozing with your most powerful 2/3, Coulson has a lot to offer with the right team.


This is from a 5* perspective. Damage dealing 4s mean very little to me. I look for unique and fun abilities in my 4s to breathe some life back into the game.

Yup I'm seriously considering whaling coulson also. I got lucky with carol and the lightning rounds and she seems like they'd be a good pair. Or with starlord.

I'm not that interested in 5* land and I've got 3k cp staring at me lol
