Need Lightning Round Advice

Before today I've never used Lightning Rounds for anything but tanking. However, after the GSBW PVP event today I had an hour to kill so I thought I'd give it a shot. I have a fairly decent 2* team and am starting to make the transition into a 3* team. However, none of my 3* are above level 100 even when buffed for a LR so I'm mainly using maxed 2* characters for my support team. I can generally rank in the top 10 in most normal PVP events.

This particular LR was a GSBW one--poor planing on the devs' part, since it immediately followed the GSBW PVP event--and my GSBW is only 3/1/1 so not extremely competitive but better than the default version you get for the event. I didn't go all out--no shields and no health packs beyond the 5 I had available--and at the end of the event I ranked at #90 which was enough to get me a single Heroic Token. Lucky for me I pulled a OBW black which I needed. However, it could have just as easily been a Cap 2* which would have made the entire exercise a waste of time except for a couple thousand ISO.

Does anyone have any advise for competing in Lightning Rounds? I'm thinking that maybe I just picked a bad one to start with--since it ended immediately after a regular PVP event it's possible that more people were playing than normally would have. Then again, it's possible that everyone would have used their health packs for the previous event which would have made the LR less competitive than normal. Another possibility is that until I get to a point where I have a few 3* level 100+ characters I just can't compete in LR and expect to waltz into the top 50 like I can in a normal PVP event.

I've read a bit about LR in Polarity's 1* to 3* transition guide but other than that I haven't seen too much advise here on how to do well. (And Polarity's guide specifically discusses the Villain LR not Heroic ones which is what's going on this week.) Are some Heroic LR more competitive than others--similar to the Villain ones--and if so, what's the ranking?

The secret to doing well is having a strong 3* roster. LRs are unbracketed, so it's just straight up, unsubtle brawling; maybe the closest thing I could suggest is to have use a team that encourages other players to skip you.

A couple more secrets to doing well:

    1. Enter the LR at the very beginning. Within the first minute. Doing so will get you matched up with seed/bot teams that are overwhelmingly very low-level. The one notable exception is Batt1e_Ange1. Do not mess with her.

    2. Tank your MMR before entering a LR you want to actually place in.

    3. A near-max 2* team absolutely can place in Top 25. Don't expect to simply waltz into Top 50, though. You will need to pick your fights and closely track your standing.

    4. The Courageous tokens were freshly nerfed for this round of Heroic LRs. They used to be a guaranteed 3* cover, now they just have an increased chance of a 3*. I'd honestly just try to get 2 Heroics. 2 Heroics are, at minimum, nearly equivalent to 1 Courageous + 250 Iso.

I believe LRs are bracketed if there are enough players. The crazy unbracketed ones are late night when not many people are playing

Other than that I agree with your advise, that's true for defense in general but more so for LRs. All in all just do what you can, the 3* guarantees were less helpful for 2* teams so it was more beneficial to get the heroics so the recent nerf won't effect you short term. I'd say just jump in, do atleast a couple of matches for the quick ISO and recruit token, and just get what you can. Don't shield or anything. Eventually your roster will get better and you'll be able to compete when your 3*s are buffed

Ah! Good to know! Though I don't know if I'll be able to actually use that knowledge, being a responsible adult and everything. #icrackmyselfup
