Breaking into the 4* tier: wait or proceed?

Situation:
I have all 4*s rostered, 11 of which have at least 10 covers. Recently, I max-covered my first 2 4* characters, with one cover queued up for each. Unfortunately, they're both pretty mediocre: X-Force Wolverine & Agent Venom.
Conventional wisdom dictates having a good core (3-5) of 4*s to champ with good color distribution, some synergy, and a variety of powers before making the leap. So, I was planning on sacrificing the queued covers for those two, because I don't think the rest of my roster can withstand the scaling jump. Even if I opened all my tokens & used all the cp I have right now, there's little chance that it would get me where I need to be. I figure that I should attempt to hoard resources for at least the current season (and maybe the following one as well) before moving into the 4* tier.
I suppose there's an argument to be made that getting a foothold into the next level of gameplay speeds up the transition, but I'm not feeling like XFW & AV are the best way to go about it. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Current resources:
47 standards
32 elites
27 heroics
2 LTs
160 cp
3475 hp
2,141,440 iso

Sounds reasonable to me. I see you have a dozen covers for Red Hulk though, if you can get the 13th cover in PvP he would make for an excellent first 4* champion.0

In my PvP experience, I don't stand a chance of hitting 900 (only ever broke 800 maybe ...3 times?), but if I were somehow able to do so, should I leave Rulk cover-maxed, champ him, or champ all 3 of them?0 -

I don't Think Wolverine or Agent Venom is Worth maxing at all at this Point. When you have several top tier fourstars championed they may be Worth considering, but not Before.0 -

WoW you are doing well Paperclip Guy, I recently championed Peggy,Thorina and Nova, Nova was my first he's great with Dr strange my PVE scaling was the same after championing him then I championed Peggy that's when my scaling went crazy my enemies are 20 levels higher now so my advise is make sure you champ really good 4* Rulk is great but you will need IM40 or Scarlett witch to support him his green ability is 18AP does good damage to the enemie team, Max Punisher and jean Grey are great to0 -
Update:
With the introduction of bonus heroes and the knowledge that the diminished pool of 4*s are likely losing some of the better characters for Mordo & Coulson next season, I cleared out my token stash.
Ended up opening ~170 standards, ~100 elites, ~80 heroics, 10 LLs & 20 classics.
Bonus heroes got me the final She-Hulk covers I needed to champ her & I put iso into 3hanos, so that entire tier is champed. Managed to get Kate Bishop to 5/4/3, Peggy is sitting at 3/3/4, Medusa is now 5/3/4. Blade is max covered with two covers on deck & Agent Venom won't leave me alone, as he is 4/5/4 with five covers queued and a single cover dupe (for TUs) rostered.
RNG is not without its frustrations, as I pulled 3 yellow Carol covers making her 2/5/2 & snagged 2 yellow Cages, no help to him at 5/1/2. Given this reason, I'm focusing on obtaining Thanos's lv183 reward (he's at 171 currently) to get me Rulk's purple so that I can champ him.
Feels like I'm going to be champing some 4*s in the coming weeks, like it or not. Bl4de seems like an okay stepping stone & hopefully I can add Medusa, Kate & Rulk soonish. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to have to champ Agent Venom, because I can only foresee pulling more of him out of the newly-concentrated pool of legendaries.0 -
With the huge stash of ISO you have I'd go ahead and champ venom since why not. Make thanos your only three star and get red hulk done as fast as possible then Peggy and you have one of the best four star combos in the game.0
