I thought only members of an alliance could chat with each other, we have a few people popping up in our chat room asking to be let in our alliance, some acting like they were invited, something's not right here

Is your alliance set to public? Ours is set to private and we've had no uninvited guests yet.

No its set to private, don't know how they're getting in our chat
  • Yes, even in private Alliances, randoms can post messages in chat.

Can the randoms see your posts? Also, is your alliance full?

I've noticed that there are some people "pending approval" after clicking join in a private alliance - they can send chat messages, but don't show up on the main roster.

Edit: This is good, because you can query their points/average position in pvp before allowing them to join.

No our alliance isn't full, guess I need to disapprove all the people asking to get in our alliance so they can't get into our chat

Makes sense if an alliance isn't full that pending members can chat. One of the issues was that alliances couldn't communicate with prospective members unless they were all together on some outside forum.

From a game standpoint it makes complete sense to me.
  • How dare the uncleans taint the maiden voyage of our elegant chat medium.

Sounded cooler in my head trust me.

I like how my messages show up in teal, I love teal, favorite color. Tempted to spam the chat just to see more of this amazing hue. Its the color for special units in SC1 don't you know.

I don't know if they can see my posts... I guess I'll ask one a question and see if they respond. And our alliance is at 19/20, so maybe it is a prospective/pending member.

I'm probably one of those posters. What happens is a member is in the top ten in the rankings so I can see them and their Alliances. I find one that has an open spot, click on join expecting the system to block me since its a private alliance, but it doesn't. So I see myself as pending and then post a pathetic accept me message.

I'm not sure that anything can be done to avoid this when there is an open roster slot (unless devs add a password or something for private alliances). I guess you could have someone create a bogus team (from another device), or accept someone on a temp basis until you find someone who is willing to pay. Otherwise you'll have a roster slot not gaining the alliance any points.
