What does it means? It only operating on iphone?

For those on a device that uses iOS they must update, this doesn't affect Android or Steam users.

Specifically, Apple added features to the toolbox that they give to developers, and if developers want to take advantage of those features, they have to code not only those new features, but then also program "graceful fallbacks" so that their app will still function on the older operating systems. That takes a lot of effort on the developer's part (and can be error prone) and the pool of users that are still on the older operating systems is always shrinking, which means they're putting in a lot of effort for smaller and smaller returns.

With patch R52, D3 and Demiurge are saying that supporting the older Apple operating systems is taking up too much of their time and that they won't be supporting them anymore. As others have said, this only affects those who play MPQ on Apple products; Steam and Android users will be unaffected.

Is there any way to update to 6 and not 7? I'm not sure an Ipad 2 can properly handle 7.

Not really. If an iOS device *can* update to a higher OS, that's all it can update to. That being said, 7.1 made earlier devices much faster on 7 than it was with 7.0. Your device won't update to an iOS that it doesn't support. It will just stop getting updates. So if your device Only supports iOS 5 (like my first gen iPad) then it won't update to 6 or 7 or 8 etc.

That said, your iPad 2 supports iOS 7.1.

This basically locks out users running on the 1st-gen iPad, 3rd-gen iPod Touch and iPhone 3G (or anything older) - however, given that MPQ runs rather sluggishly on my iPhone 4, I can't imagine that anyone using those devices would've had a great experience with the game anyway.
