Isn't that a rare? The thread was about mythics, which is why I think that no one has mentioned Recruit yet.
I guess five words is one too many for me to read in a subject header0 -
I think that Rishkar's Expertise is going to be a super strong mythic, but will not be as broken as people are making it out to be.
For the most part I see it as a god-tier replacement for Animist's Awakening and not a win condition that you go digging for.
Looking at it there is actually a mixed bag.-
Fantastic value.
-
Seriously insane value.
-
Potentially too much of a good thing. If your entire deck is ramp and card draw to keep your hand full, there isn't a ton of room left for heavy creatures and counter/removal.
-
It is likely to kill or remove shields from your other ramp already on the board. That obviously doesn't matter in terms of mana, but...
-
It is likely to mean much less loyalty generated over time than current cascade or start of turn options like Fertile Thicket, Nissa's Pilgrimage, Animist's Awakening, Attune with Aether, etc. The trade-off is a mana nuke, but abilities are often what you build around.
-
There are a number of effect-on-destroy supports that you may need to play around. That's bad.
-
There are even more enemy supports you will want to destroy. That's good.
-
For good and bad the card is very anti-energy.
It's definitely nutso strong, but in the good way that a mythic should be. Harness may be primed for a big comeback, total **** Kiora decks will be even more ****, but I don't see it shaping the game like Olivia or Deploy.0 -

If you have rashmi it means that your hand will always be full so 20 gems for 5 mana.Throw in SP and renewal too. Never ending loops.0 -
I foresee the possibility of literally breaking the game to unending matches and thus a match that can't be completed.
Gonti's Aether Heart + Aethergeode Miner + Rashmi on a well energized Dovin board.0 -

And what's that other card? Prism.... something?
Err... yeah sure, that one too. Very underrated card. I sometimes forget that i even have it, you know0 -

so Rashmi grew from useless to OP in one add-on set release. very nice indeed.0 -

I still wouldnt say OP. But after testing she turned out to be better than i initially thought, for mono green decks especially.0 -

thanks. i am going to try her once i get my n2.0 -
The thing about Rishkar's Expertise is that it's a STRONGER redundant effect. It's green ramp, but made stronger and cheaper. It's power creep. It takes the power of Nissa's R and distills it down to a card anyone can cast, even though green's ramp was already more than sufficient, and opens the door to even more games where you just sit there and watch the AI cycle cards indefinitely.
Compare this to say, red burn. We still don't have a viable upgrade on Exquisite Firecraft.0 -
So, I think their are some really intriguing cards in this release. Clearly some niche game changers like Baral, where you can infinitely loop him, and Gonti which will be very broken in certain decks. Also, some really strong cards like rishkar's expertise that will be core in any deck like startled awake.
However, I am less sold on some of the smaller efficient creatures. The big problem is creature slots. Oviya is a good example of a really strong card that really just doesn't see much play. Unfortunatly, if I have to choose between lightning runner or Sram and Olivia or Pig, its just not worth it to go that low. Too many PWs have too much mana gains for these efficient creatures to be worth the deck and creature slots they require0 -
Gonti's Aether Heart is OP and I love it. Wasn't sure about it at first but I combined it with an energy heavy Dovin deck and I can chain multiple swaps together (10+) on a fairly regular basis. This is insane when used with Electrostatic Pummeler (record so far is a power of 646,368,240).0
-
That is totally what I thought would happen with aether heart.0
-
I look forward to running into infinite-swap engine decks during events. That'll be fantastic. Can't wait.
One of the earliest mistakes in paper MTG's development was underestimating the sheer power of giving extra turns.
Seems like we're heading down that road now with swaps.0 -
Agreed on the mistake on extra turns - just had 42 extra turns in a row with the Bristling Hydra and Gonti's Aether Heart.0

Overload 3 is tough to get going repeatedly, though. Even if you've got a bumped up Empyreal Voyager or something like that, it's still tough to get more than a couple of extra swaps without creating more and more energized gems.
I just got this card and 1: the swaps stack (oh my) 2: with era of innovation and this card you can play forever with a fully energized board (just keep putting out supports and throwing away the rest) and 3:I got an electrostatic pummeler over the billion mark (damage displays 0 after the 1 billion mark) in damage before sabatoging my turn to stop making him stronger. Simply a ridiculous card.0 -
