Theorycraft : non mythic decks

The suggestion has been put forth that mythics are being used as crutches. Let's see if we can come up with some playable mythic-less decks. The only real rule is zero mythics in the deck. Bonus points if you can minimise rares too.

No real way to pit these decks against each other, and few of us would probably be willing to submit them as event contenders, but let's see what we can come up with!

    Lilianna2

    Oath of Lilianna
    To The Slaughter
    Grip of Desolation
    Trangress the Mind

    From Under The Floodboards
    Prized Amalgam
    Diregraf Colossus
    Noosegraf Mob
    Sunken Hollow
    Graf Harvest

The idea here is to make use of Lilianna2's first to discard prized amalgam. Fill up Floorboards. Get Colossus out, keep summoning zombies.
Noosegraf and oath of lilianna to keep the zombie supplies coming in. Prized amalgam to be the shield with graf harvest and oath.
It should be pretty nasty a pain in the **** to fight this deck.

The deck's weakness is probably running out of cards to use, or the order of incoming card sucks. If you meet a flying hexproof, it's going to be tough.
But since Colossus power growth is actually quite fast, you can kill the opponent rather quickly.
I play something similar but I had a mythic (Gisa and Geralf). Taking that out, I think this works too but it won't be as explosive.
I would like to hear the opinions of everyone. Do you think the above is viable in competitive events? Why or why not?
    Thanks.

    Ob Nixilis:

    Grip of desolation
    Anguished Unmaking
    To the Slaughter
    Shrine of the Forsaken Gods
    Unholy Hunger
    Lost Legacy
    Languish
    Whispers of Emrakul
    Transgress the Mind
    Tamiyo's Journal

Kill everything with cheap kills spells, destroy any expensive cards in hand and use Anguished to wipe out annoying supports. Use Languish to kill Hexproof. Do this until you charge Ob Nixilis 3 and then Lost Legacy to make opponent redraw cards until they die.

In general, black has very viable non-mythic decks because it has plenty of kill spells.

I think this thread will mostly be dominated by Sorin builds, but don't forget that you can make viable Nahiri zoos without a lot of mythics or even rares!

mythics help speed up the game and also give you the
edge if you happen to not have had coffee yet. playing
the game and events in silver tier and below does not
    require mythics.

sorin makes one of the best non mythic decks.
choose 3-5 of any cheap mana creature eg lone rider,
    not forgotten, serene steward etc.
add grip of desolation, eliminate the competition works
great if you have it. encircling fissure works well.
add murder investigation and you're mostly free to try
other cards to make up the numbers.

The strategy is to have a creature on the battlefield
no matter what. give up black/white matches favouring
lesser mana cascades once you have 1-2 creatures on
the battlefield and then focus on getting out his abilities.
if your creatures die, they can be replaced quickly
enough and will replenish your hp while they grow.
I've managed to beat 3.3 fs event with this.(may have
included 1 or 2 rares though)

This is slightly **** version of a Jace2 deck that I used to use for the old Emrakul event. I liked it so much that used to play with it outside of the event sometimes.

    fevered dreams (r)
    Imprison in the moon (r)
    Insidious will (r)
    Sunken hollow (r)
    Jace's Sanctum (r)
    scour from existence
    horribly awry
    Sphinx's tutelage
    Contraband kingpin
    long-finned skywhale

wow didnt realize i had that many rares in it or that i had that many really a few can be replaced for non rares but not too many really.
killer just keep them begging for mana till you can get the 3rd ability and it is all over.
doesnt handle quick speed decks well but long game is awesome

This is my current Sorin build:

    Dark Petition
    Ruinous Path
    Corrupted Grafstone
    Campaign Of Vengeance
    Defiant Bloodlord
    Zulaport Cutthroat
    Fragmentize
    Lone Rider
    Tidy Conclusion
    Silverstrike

In a previous post, I misnamed the Zulaport Cutthroat as something else and that he was an uncommon.

    4 rares, 3 uncommons and 3 commons

    liliana1 deck
requires level 51 and above for best effects.

    creatures
    fleshbag marauder
    mockery of nature
    mind raker

    spells
    grave birthing
    transgress the mind
    grip of desolation
    read the bones
    eliminate the competition

    supports
    infernal scarring
    magnifying glass

strategy is to discard opponents cards and kill any opponent creature
that actually gets out. designed for nop event but can/should be
    optimized to include life gain.

I won in one try against nodes 3-1,3-2,3-3 of fateful showdown at the first try with this.
the rest is copied from the reddit post:

I was planning to submit this to the ob nixilis deck contest on the d3go forums, but I can't find a variant that murders ulamog from the last node of the zenzikar story.

Anyway this could help newbies that don't have powerful black mythics that sinergise well with ob like behold the beyond, infinite obliteration, BtB or that 15 mana spell from SoI.

    Ob nixilis:

    Creatures

    sludge crawler

    bonded construct

    Wild-field scarecrow.

    Spells

    Altar's reap

    Read the bones

    Die young

    Bone splinters

    Grave birthing

    tidy conclusions

    Scour from existence
  • OK, here we go:

    Kiora

    Creatures:
    Scrapheap Scrounger
    Prized Amalgam

    Supports:
    Shrine of the Forgotten Gods
    From Beyond
    Angel's Tomb (Yes, seriously.)

    Spells:
    Haunted Cloak
    Imprison in the Moon
    Reclaim
    Rise from the Tides
    Gather the Pack

I posted this on the subreddit a while ago, but that was before Kaladesh. I haven't really optimized it but it is SUPER fun, if a bit slow. This hinges on only having two creatures and gathering lots and lots of the pack...because all the destroyed creatures end up coming back again and again and again. It might even be worth scrapping the amalgam altogether so that you gather just tons of scroungers; they're certainly easier to bring back. It might also be worth having another token creature in there somewhere.

So Gather all the Packs you can, use Angel's tomb so that when they come back they all have flying and +lots/+lots, and then haste 'em. Good times! Please troll responsibly.

Since there's not one like this yet:

    Jace 1:
    Advanced Stitchwing
    Wharf Infiltrator
    Eternal Scourge
    Forgotten Creation
    Aetherflux Reservior
    Talent of the Telepath
    Anticipate
    Chilling Grasp
    Broken Concentration
    Skeleton Key

This deck's primary purpose is to get out Wharf Infiltrator and get it to start discarding Eternal Scourge to create eldrazi horrors as the scourge will return to hand every turn. The other creature you want to actually play is Forgotten Creation to cycle your hand and get your stitchwings in the graveyard so that landfalls will let you discard more cards. Skeleton Key will be played on your eldrazi horrors both for unblockable and to discard more cards.

You will have spells with madness that will charge with each discard so you can focus on casting creatures. Anticipate and Talent of the Telepath will help you dig your your key cards. Mostly you'll be using Jace's second ability to get your spells back to hand to replay.

    kiora

    Creatures

    Desolation Twins

    Spells

    Scour from existence
    Seek the wilds
    Stratus walk
    Talent of the telepath
    Anchor to the ether

    Supports

    Nissa's pilgrimage
    Fertile thicket
    Brawlers plate
    Yavimaya coast

An extremely effective deck, between kiora's 2nd ability and the seek the wilds I've managed to stack the twins up to 4 times in a single game. The average is twice....which is more then enough. And....only 2 rares, Desolation Twins the deck kinda needs but talent of the telepath could be switched out easily enough, for some other card draw. even creature control would work in its place i believe, tho haven't tried it that way.
  • This is my Jace2. A good board can have me swinging for about 130 on turn 5.
    Tamiyo's Journal
    Corrupted Grafstone
    Wharf Infiltrator
    Anchor to the Aether
    Incubator Drone
    Welcome to the Fold
    Sphinx's Tutelage
    Forgotten Creation
    Pore Over the Pages
    Imprisoned in the Moon

Forgotten Creation is a beast, with J2.
I'm not above Mooning an opponent's creature and stealing it with Welcome - then pumping it with the Unravel card draws. I took a couple pictures but am having trouble posting them... icon_rolleyes.gif
