Kiora Purchases, then and now. Refunds!?!?

When I purchased Kiora, she cost 950 crystals. She was the most expensive Planeswaker available. She was also the most expensive available when available for a cash price.

Today I see others showing that her cost has been lowered by 300 crystals. While she was nerfed recently, the only change that was nerfed (after much debate and outspoken protest) was her first Loyalty ability.

Are we suggesting that her first ability was worth 300 crystals?

Since the product has not changed, why was the price changed? Will people who purchased Kiora in the past at the higher cost be able to expect a refund for spending more for the same product?

(for those that want to make the argument that items devalue over time, I will preemptively counter that such devaluation usually requires replacement by a new or better alternative. No other blue/green combination exists, and general consensus remains that Kiora is probably the premier Planeswalker based on color and versatility).

Your question reminds me of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Workers_in_the_Vineyard, in that you are complaining that later buyers get the same reward for less effort.

If the price were raised, would your reaction be the same? Would you be willing to retroactively pay more, just because the price is higher now?

Every other planeswalker went up in price except kiora went down. It makes no sense.

They should give 1 pack from each set or gems to people who had her before kaladesh if they want to change her price.

I'm reminded of something I read just this week:

There are two kinds of people.

    1) those that see others having an easier time and say "that's great. Things are getting better."

    2) and those that see this and complain "I suffered. They should suffer too."
  • I bought Kiora for 950 when she returned to the Vault after the nerf. I'm still happy.

My issue is that i skipped buying other pws to save up and buy kiora. Now they reduced her price and jacked up everyone else. People like me legit got screwed over. I have to pay extra for every pw now instead of just for her.

If it was just her going down in price then whatever, that would be ok. I think all old pws should go down in price over time. My issue is her going down and literally every other one going up.

I think it's completely fair. The people that spent the extra 300 crystals got a lot of play time out of her before those who got her for cheaper could start using her. With arguably one of the best walkers in the game, I'm sure you've earned more crystals than the people without her would have earned.

I assume that the devs decided to settle for three price tiers: basic pws, monos and dual-colored and just adjust their prices in bulk, instead of having basics, monos, duals, more expensive duals and Kiora. IMO it increases transparency - now we can assume that duals released in the future will cost 650 manacrystal.png instead of wondering what their individual pricing will be. Think of the comfort that'll give you when you want to save crystals for Saheeli or any other pw you might want to purchase. Would you rather have them raise the price of all duals to 950, just to make you feel better? Long-term you'd lose much more than 300 crystals you feel you've 'lost'.

You have to get used to the idea that sometimes prices get adjusted and pws/cards rebalanced. It's ultimately better for the overall health of the game (in fact, we could use some more balancing) and benefits the whole community. If we were to assume that every time a card is rebalanced or price (especially in crystals) adjusted we need to compensate everyone who feels they 'lost' something, it'd introduce chaos, lead to people abusing that option (some would probably ask for a 'compensation' after every patch) and ultimately discourage the dev team from introducing any changes at all.

I bought a number of cards/pws with actual money. If they were to be nerfed, and some of them should be, I wouldn't ask for a refund - they have given me enough of an advantage already and I care more about cards being balanced than any personal benefits.

I wonder if you complain like this about plane tickets getting sometimes cheaper after you already bought yours. Do you ask for a refund then?

It's business. Back when you got Kiora there weren't so many alternatives and she was crazy good. Now... Not so much.

Would you accept with your refund to also give back all the goodies you got from the matches you played with her and won? To even out with the people who are buying her only now...

Obviously I am exaggerating here to prove that the concept of fair is very relative. I might spend gazillion of money on crystals to get some origins mythic, only to be replaced by an offer or event card that gives me a strictly better card in the future. Is that fair? Yes because we are playing a game that is changing and evolving. Set your expectations accordingly and you'll be less disappointed.

    Cheers and good luck mate!
