What am I supposed to do with 2.3 million runes?

Question to the devs:

I have been playing since the day 1 public release of MtPQ. I have won alot of the Quick Battles, I have all of the Planeswalkers (PW) to max level. This may seem like a brag thread but I am answering questions before they are asked.

What am I supposed to do with a commodity I cant spend? I cant purchase potions with them, I cant purchase cards with them. I cant purchase anything from your store with them. I cant really do anything with these things other than level up another PW. Are there any future plans do anything with these mostly useless runes? With my library and with the RNG being what it is, I average 5-10k in runes from duplicates from big boxes. I do have a rather large collection of cards and I do have alot of mythics but I am missing key Mythics.

To get a single color PW to level 60 it will cost 80k in Runes and a dual colored PW costs 160k in Runes. So do you plan on release 100 or so PW's in the next year or so?

In a an early release of MtPQ you allowed players to purchase the free daily packs for 500 runes. Back then you only got one free pack every 24 hours I believe. Is there any intention of ever bringing that back or something similar?

Other things that might work. I would be willing to spend 250k in runes to purchase a rare from a select group of cards made available for purchase with runes and up to 500k in runes to do the same for 1 Mythic. You present the player with what the possible cards are and then let them roll the dice or hit the slot machine.

Basically you show the player base 10 or more possible rare cards in the monthly Grab bag with a purchase of runes and the same for the Mythic. You wont seed the grab bag with any uncommon or commons. It would be a random selection of rare or Mythic cards.

Other player ideas for what to do with runes would be appreciated.

  • Crafting, akin to what Hearthstone allows for, would be my vote. In my mind it would go something like this:
      * Nominal runes + a nominal amount of crystals for a random rare * Same nominal runes + a larger number of crystals for a guaranteed rare of the week/month * Large amount of runes + even larger amount of crystals for a random mythic (limit one per month) * Even larger amount of runes + still larger amount of crystals for a guaranteed mythic of the month
I doubt we'd ever see anything even close to that, but you never know, maybe they'll see some sort of benefit in giving us a rune sink that can also make them some cash.

    Some ideas:
    • Allow players to use Runes to heal Planeswalkers at level 60. Possibly at the last level cost?
    • Make Story levels reset for Runes, alowing players to grind them for Crystals.
    • Create a coalition bank players can deposit runes into, accessible by all coalition members. Set a small crystal fee to withdraw from the bank. Depositors would receive a portion of the fee as compensation.
    • Allow players to directly gift Runes to players in their coalition.
    • Allow players to trade Runes for duplicate cards from other players in their coalition at the duplication conversion rate. Both traders would be required to pay a nominal crystal fee to complete the trade.
    • Create a daily spinning wheel style reward, where you can win different items (small crystals, uncommon card, Rare, Mythic, colour pack, fat pack, big box, etc). Allow limited respins before claiming the prize for increasing Runes + Crystal cost.

    Any of these ideas interesting?

I would suggest an upkeep tax, once you have a planes walker to 60 to use him in an event you need to pay a ticket fee that could be based on how many pw you have at 60. If you can't pay the thicket fee you can only use the basic walkers in an event.

To put it in perspective, there were no daily booster packs. Those packs were purchasable for runes. And runes were scarce.

We got 50 runes for winning each quick battle, and there weren't event rewards. Most of us had to choose between leveling our walkers and buying those packs. The opportunity costs were very high indeed.

I agree there should be a way to deal with the excess runes, but let's bear in mind that the current excess runes we have right now is actually due to the devs making them easier to obtain.

As such I think it would be unrealistic to expect them to assign too much value to the runes.

Buying the 3 card packs sounds like a feasible idea, but the price would and should probably be somewhere in the vicinity of 10k per booster

    Sounds great!
They can make a condition, that before u can use Runes to all additional benefits, all Your PW's must be on Max LVL ...
I still need about 600k runes to level rest of my PW's (got all of them besides Saheeli Rai), so still much work for me :-/

I was thinking about gifting my excess as well, lets face it, We will never be let to trade our cards with others..... d3 is a business after all but allowing your fellow coalition members to boost their planeswalkers by gifting them your runes sounds like a fine idea.

roll dice for a chance of rare/mythic for XXk runes would be a viable option as well

Are we looking to build a system where the only barrier between a player and a full collection is the amount of time he's willing to grind QB, are we?

Speaking as a lazy person, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

It beats a system whereby only the top members of the top coalitions are able to rack up the rares and mythics in events, the same players with infinite time and patience are able grind the same out of the QBs, and the rest of us are stuck pulling the arm of the slot machine for 600 Crystals a pop and praying that RNGeesus smiles upon us. This game needs an analogue to tabletop MTG, whereby those of us who haven't been able to pull that one card we need to finish our deck out of a random pack can effectively "go to the store" and "buy" it.

Yes but if they ever did that, someone would complain that the game is now pay 2 win and everyone would run the same decks and mythics. I completely disagree with that sentiment though and would love the option to "go to the store" and "buy" cards I want. The only thing that makes this game still fun is making new decks that you can still win with. Someone would come up with an amazing deck and others would copy it, and then someone would come up with another amazing deck that beats the first one. It's not like we haven't seen it happen before... Runaway Carriage anyone? Problem then was, people lacked certain cards to be able to deal with that deck appropriately. That problem wouldn't exist in this ""go to the store" and "buy" it" world.
