What Your Cards are Really Trying to Tell You

I laugh out loud every time I cast Gonti:

"When this creature enters the battlefield, if you have 6 or less cards in your hand, the last card in your opponent's hand is moved to your hand."

What it's really saying is:

"When this creature enters the battlefield, if you are playing Magic the Gathering Puzzle Quest right now and casting this card, the last card in your opponent's hand is moved to your hand."

What are some other cards trying to tell us?

I don't know order of operations on triggers but it's possible that if you have 6 cards in hand then cast Gonti with Panharmonicon in play, the Panharmonicon will trigger and fetch the next creature from your deck before Gonti does which would put you back up to 6 cards in hand, thus rendering Gonti's trigger useless. Weird text on cards seems to come from a few possible corner cases that could cause issues/confusion without the weird text. Most of us read Gonti as redundant because if you cast him of course you won't have 6 cards in hand but maybe sometimes you will. Also, there's always Lili 1's third ability since Gonti's trigger is not on cast but when entering the battlefield.

Ugh, Gomti is a card that sounds great but is pretty lame in practice. Rarely do you ever steal anything that works in your deck. If I stole Olivia every time, then great.

Sorry, feel free to go back to your discussion icon_razz.gif.

I have to concur with Mainloop. Unless I've got a very good reason, my most useless cards go to the bottom of my hand, and I believe that the AI does the same thing.

He's not a powerhouse card, but I've been mastering him in Story Mode with Sorin and DtG and he's a really fun card to play -- despite his ridiculous wording.

To answer a couple of questions -- one of the things that makes him interesting is that you get a glimpse into how AI orders cards. It seems it's always a spell -- I've stolen 2 EI's in BFZ story mode -- doesn't seem to matter how good the spell is, but I am generally taking a spell.

Also he triggers before other card abilities -- so before supports.

All-in-all, I enjoy him and will probably keep him in my Sorin deck as long as I'm using it for Story Mode -- because, as I said, he's fun, and sometimes it's ok to appreciate a card just for that.

I've stolen lots of helms of the Gods, most of the time unable to use them

It would be a nice tweak to have him steal a random card.

If it were the first card it would likely be OP as that's where the strongest card ends up and last card is mostly meh, so random would be a fair middle ground imo.

If you bring him back to the field with Liliana's third ability, it's possible you had a full hand, and get no card stolen. But yeah. It's funny wording.

Assuming the coding is as detailed as the card wording, this is them being pro active in stomping out possible bugs that can arise from a conflicting scenario.

It's a good direction to take.
