scrapheap scrounger is broken [Solved]

In the new Chandra event the AI uses scrapheap scrounger and the text reads "when another creature dies this creature is returned the to field". The problem is I killed the damn thing 3 times in the same turn and it kept coming back. No other creatures were on the field. Please fix this.

The creature works like this: if scrap heap is in the graveyard and any creature lands in the graveyard scrap heap comes back to the board. This includes another scrap heap. Yep the card is hard to play against. You cannot even rid yourself of it by disabling it first as it's ability triggers from the graveyard. If only we could exile cards. Maybe we'll get a card that can do that someday. Until then your only hope is to fly over it or trample over the top of it. Or put a permanent disable on it (like Hixus or Suppression Bonds).

I undestand how the card works or at least i thought i did. What I was saying that only 1 scrapheap was in play and no other creatures had been played by the AI at all, yet the scrapheap continued the come back again and again in the same turn. The effect is not supposed to count on itself... or am I wrong?

I've seen it happen but only when there are two, one in play and one in the field. Maybe did he discard one, since you say he'd only played the one?

Out of curiosity, did the AI have a forced discard, your spell/ability or a card like molten axe? That would explain how one was in play and one in the graveyard at all times, you kill one, the other pops back into play. There's a reason it's a 20 casting cost.

    Can confirm.

No scrapheap in my graveyard, one in play. Opponent killed it, it came back immediately. This does not happen every game though.

Can also confirm that if there IS a copy in the graveyard, only one copy will come back.

I had 3 copies of my scrapheap scrounger come back from the graveyard when my Olivia was killed.

Even had two copies of scrapheap scrounger come back when the reinforced one in play was killed.
  • What is the biggest pain about this card is that when it bounces back into play it doesn't even have summoning sickness and is disabled for a turn because when you destroy it, it is replayed instantly (ie still on your turn). The ability check should at least happen at the beginning of the opponent's turn and not at instant speed. Such a pain in the butt card. I lost a quick match game against it because it was the only creature the opp cast. So broken.

I can say the same thing about recurring zombies. The card is not broken. At 20mana for a 6/6, it is not cheap to play. And at 6/6, it is not a big threat. I would say 10mana 5/1 hexproofed runaway carriage is a bigger threat.

Since you know how this scounger works, then play accordingly to defeat it. it has berserk but no trample. so use a cheap sacrificial critter to block its attack, or disable it, or use an even bigger 6+/>6 critter to block it and get it to kill itself.

recurring zombies from liliana oath is a very good defence against it.
