A few 5*/OML questions

I know this should really be posted in either the tips & guides or character sub forums but wanted to post it here first as it gets a lot more traffic and would be grateful if the mods could leave here it a day or two before moving it.

I finally have a fully covered Old Man Logan at level 350 and have just pulled a 14th cover. I currently have over half the 4*s championed including all the heaviest hitters, but all my other 5*s are still at 255 and only Surfer and Phoenix have more than 5 covers (11 & 10 respectively).

I'm looking for guidance on whether I should pull the trigger and champion OML. At the moment PVE is manageable and I wouldn't of thought it would mess with my scaling too much as it would only push the average of my top characters up by 20 or so levels assuming I'll always have three or more boosted 4*s at 350+.

I'm not really sure though what it would do to PVP? At the moment I can make 900 comfortably (normally with 0/1 shields) although my floating point is extremely low. I almost always run either two boosted 4*s or one with OML, and start getting hit at 4-500. I often get hit by low champed 5*s but can rarely queue them.

Secondary questions are what build is best for OML, and who his best 4* partners would be aside from Nova and 4pool. Also would it be worth moving Phoenix or Surfer up to say 360 to work alongside him?

Thanks

  • i have one 450 and one 375. my pve scaling tops at 365 and 380 on the hard essential and final hard node respectively. not bad at all and with the increased match damage on a single 450 things move much faster. (boss rush sucked hard).

your pvp world will change irrevocably forever. if you have one 450 the game will pretty much treat you like you have 10 450s for purposes of mmr. you will be attacked mercilessly by duo 450+ teams. a 450/360 team is treated almost like a seed team. all your potential point worthy matches will feature a 400ish plus oml and a boosted 4 star or at least a pair of 375+ 5 stars.

this is my experience. your and others may vary but i dont think so. the decision is yours. good luck.

What Thanos said is correct for PVE for PVP you will be seen by many more championed 5* players but you won't necessarily be treated like a seed team. 900 will be about the same unless you join a line chat. If you join a line chat you can get to 1200 with one championed 5* on 1-2 hops. If you have a champ boosted 4* you will be fine each week in PVP.

As for builds I went 5,5,3. I use him all the time and prefer having higher healing. When you fire his black you will do almost 5K match damage. His main purpose is to be the ultimate meat shield and give you nasty strike tiles so you can have him isecup only black and bring anyone else with you. The best are 4* that he can tank for. X-23 is also much better with OML since his strike tiles lets you fire her purple and she also true heals.
  • My recent PVP experience with a 452 Phoenix and 435 OML:

I beat the three seed teams and stopped there for a bit. I was hit 13 times before I played my 4th match.

Every time you level a 5 star your PVP experience will get worse. It's just the way the game is at the moment.

Everyone one is right about the tradeoff between pve and pvp. But consider for yourself where you are in the in the game.

If you have a 2* farm going, all 3* champed and 1/2 4* champed then your pretty close to needing to move to 5* tier anyway.

All I'm saying is that OML champ levels are important and shouldn't be carelessly sold on some vague assumption of how the game might feel.

    My advice is:
If you have the most of the top tier 4* champed then you'll be fine pairing the boosted 4* with a champ OML. You will need to pick smart matches and play quick matches. But this is the sweet spot where the games are really balanced and you need to prove that you can compete at that tier of play.

Well that very much makes me not care about my 5* covers even more than before.

I have a different view to some others here.

I've got 12 champed 4*s and a lvl 451 OML, and levelling OML in the new world has been the best thing I've done in the game. It has made my MMR tougher yes, but even then with healing at 5 I rarely use healthpacks in my climb.

5/5/3 all the way unless I'm grilling.

It makes hopping significantly easier, both because he's deadly and because it takes time to take him down.

Made PvE easier/more enjoyable for me also, clearing is far quicker.

Put it this way - pre-champing I could climb to 700-800 in PvP before shielding. With a fair wind and some good qs I can now climb all the way to 1.2k.

....and for the record, if I see any non-champed 5*/boosted 4* team I do not hesitate to to hit and hardly ever wipe.

I'd prob avoid 2x5*s unless I had to but even then you can take them on and win.

One piece of advice though, if you have OML champed his perfect partner in crime is 4* Deadpool. If you don't have him champed already prioritise him.

Thank you all for the replies. I've decided to take the leap and Champion him. As Phumade pointed out I'm ready for/need to move to the 5* tier and aside from a couple of notable exceptions there's not much value filling out my 4* roster even more.

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on levelling Phoenix and Surfer. Both are still at 255, Phoenix being 2-4-4 and Surfer 3-4-4. Not really sure they could offer that much more than booosted 4*s at the moment other than the extra match damage and PVE sustainability.

Of the two, Phx is the better bet but there's not a lot of point levelling until you have like 12 covers.

My Surfer's on 11 covers but I'm not levelling as I'm not convinced he'd be that useful. Plus, he's on 5 black anyway so the worst power.
